This hotel is not a five star hotel as Europeans know it. However if you spend anytime away from the joint and visit the rest of Margarita it may well seem like a five star when you return. Get the picture?
Only go to this place if you;
A. are a keen golfer and are prepared to play in 35 degrees (before November)for the privilege of an empty (but beautiful) course
B. like to stay in a reasonable hotel without leaving the grounds or 2 weeks
C. like food that looks good but tastes bland
d. are prepared to tip everyone before anything like 'normal' service resumes
E. don't mind animation team bods (wannabe euro DJ's - shaba) shouting at you via a mike at the poolside 10 times a day regarding what 'great' games they have in store (Blokes - If you want to avoid this, just get your wife to volunteer on day one and the speedo pouched animators will target her - and not you - everyday from there on in)
F. don't mind your hotel transforming into a conference centre at the weekend.
G. don't mind when 'stuff' doesn't work (sorry, I know that's a general remark but it's a big subject matter in this place/country)
H. don't mind bathrooms/showers covered in limescale
I. like exterior windows covered in grime, dust and bird droppings
J.like dirty public toilets
K.don't like snorkeling (the sea was constantly murky in October- and cold at this side of the island)
L. don't mind a singular bar beside the pool that:served no food/served a limited amount of drinks in plastic cups/was constantly surrounded by angry wasps (in October)
M. like a beach with a nice veneer but looking closely at the palm trees to the rear turns into a rubbish tip.
N. like it windy.
J. don't have a short temper.
HAVING SAID ALL THAT
DO go to this place if you want an all inclusive jolly out of season at a cheap price with good weather, a hotel that looks good from the outside, has a good lobby, gives you a huge wooden floored room, a large bed(with tacky bed covers), a big bathroom/shower (with limescale thrown in), pretty good reception staff, Green Iguanas roaming in the grounds - best thing about the place for me- beautiful surroundings, an uncanny amount of extra friendly european fellow guests, two good pools for adults and kids, nice grounds, good dance shows on a night - if you like that sort of thing - and peace and quiet when you want to hit the sack.
Go hear if you want a cheap Caribbean holiday in a nice location but don't expect the Ritz.

We decided to stay at this hotel as the first choice brochures made it look so inviting.
What is not mentioned in the brochures is the fact that the hotel is located so far away from anything you end up paying for taxis if you want to go anywhere.
What was also not mentioned is how few british people holiday here. The place was overrun by South Americans (columbians, venesualans and brazillians) who in all honesty were given preferential treatment to the europeans. Even down to the room we were allocated. We were given a front facing room and when we complained that we have paid for sea views they moved us. We were told later by the bar staff that they keep the sea rooms for the natives and only give us the good rooms if we complain.
Food was really bland and after 2 weeks becomes really boring.
No evening entertainment other than a one hour show of local dancing etc in the outdoor ampitheatre.
Pool was scummy and bedroons were never cleaned peoperely. Windows looked like thay had not been cleaned since the hotel was built.
Beach was small but nice but did become very busy at weekends as it was not a private beach.
5 star this hotel is definately not. Don't be fooled by the brochures

The hotel is beautiful - in a lovely setting, surrounded by mountains and sea. The hotel is clean, the lobby is stunning! The food is good - but we liked the Fogon and the beach bar best. You have to meet the barmen in the beach bar, they are great! Cheers baby! We recommend the chicken kebabs and the ham and cheese toastie for lunch.
The rooms are gorgeous, and the beds are so comfy. You get left water every day, and there is a hairdryer to use.
They also do laundry very reasonably priced.
There are two pools - one childrens, but the main pool isn't too deep, and our four year old was fine in it, with his rubber ring.
There is always something to do around the pool, bingo, darts, and if they find out you're name you will be called!
There isn't much to do in the evenings, but the lobby bar does good cocktails, I enjoyed a copito! and it is lovely to sit in there, especially in the week when it is quiet.
The beach is lovely, and the sea can look stunning on some days.
You will always see lizards on you're walk to the beach. And my husband saw a massive crab late at night.
The staff at the Hesperia are friendly, and it is from what we saw the best hotel on the island.

Hotel, as stunning as it appears in the brochures, Foyer is beautiful, rooms are spacious and have large bathrooms.
We had a wonderful view of the beach and mountains.Food is very good, restaurant could sometimes be crowded with business guests on seminars and sometimes food was lukewarm.
They held many themed food nights in the main restaurant. We took our daughter who is 10 there was no other children in the hotel in week 1 and only a few babies in the 2nd week, most of the guests are from the mainland or Colombia and Germany, very few British.
It can help if you know Spanish as once away from the Hotel most of the local people speak no English at all.
Staff, are wonderful they cannot do enough for you, tip early in your visit and they will treat you like royalty.
Beach was small and pretty however beware of the bottles & rubbish on the sand.Pool was cleaned everyday and was never crowded, somedays we had it to ourselves.
Change your money in Juan Griego as the hotel take comission and do not give a good exchange rate.
I would recommend this Holiday, it is a wonderful Island & I would love to visit Margarita Again....
