We had a twin room without a view of the Bell Tower but actually this was a relief as it meant we weren't facing the busy roundabout and the room was quite quiet.
Check in went smoothly and the room was an ok size but the wardrobe was very small and there was very little drawer space.
As soon as we got to the room we had a problem with the conrol unit in between the beds - it controls all the lights, TV etc. Unfortunately it was making an annoying buzzing sound and none of the buttons work so the light isn't good see to unpack or take a shower properly (but actually there aren't any towels in the bathroom anyway!). We call reception who promise to send someone to fix it and we also ask for some towels. 3 phone calls later we are still waiting and it takes an intervention by our local guide for them to get themselves in gear.
Also the aircon doesn't work and when we ask about it we are told it is controlled centrally and rooms can't alter it individually.
The bathroom is quite small, the shower is awful. It's either to hot or too cold there is no happy medium. The water pressure is very poor and there is no shelf space. The towels keep disappearing and not getting replaced and in the end I resort to hiding one as I'm sick of calling housekeeping.
On the plus side the beds are extremely comfortable and robes and slipper are provided.
The bar area is quite nice and set away from the main lobby so it's a nice palce to sit and chill out and the drinks are very reasonable. The mini bar is quite cheap too.
We were not impressed with the breakfast - the place is crowded and it has a canteen like atmosphere. The food quality is not very good. Didn't eat in there on an evening so can't comment.
The final insult was that come check out they tried to put someone else's mini bar bill on ours (we weren't even checked in for the 2 nights they tried to charge us!)
In general the standard of our hotels in China was very good but of all the ones we stayed in this is one I would definitely never visit again.
