We booked to stay at the Grand Hotel Park for 10 nights after being recommended by a friend. We were not disappointed. The Hotel is in Lapad which is a 10 minute bus ride from Dubrovnik Old Town. The location was perfect, 5 mins walk to the pebble beach and the same from the nearest bus stop if you wanted to go into Dubrovnik, buses run well after midnight so you don't have to rush back if you want to spend the evening in the Old Town.
The food at the hotel was passable, breakfast better than evening meal, but we like to eat out in the evening so this wasn't a problem really.
The only problem we had with the hotel was that the pool area only had a few umbrellas so if you didn't get up at 7am you didn't get an umbrella and if you wasn't down by 8am you didn't get a sunbed either, normal problem, towels over sunbeds and no one around!
The main promenade with restaurants and bars runs at the side of the hotel so an easy walk out in the evening.
The rooms were a good size and had everything you need including mini bar.
Reception staff were very helpful and although they cannot sell you bus tickets anymore or book excursions they had plenty of advise on where to get these.
I would definitely stay at the hotel again more for the location than the food though.

We stayed at the Grand Park Hotel on the Lapad area. Our ovrall impression was " What a shame". THe hotel itself was comfortable and very clean. Our recommendation would be to ask for a top floor sea view room ( we were next to top floor- level 6) and the view from the balcony was the best feature by far as we overlooked the tops of the trees with spectaculaar view of the bays, incoming and outgoing cruisers etc.
The food was o.k. but no imagination for first course or deserts. Main course had plenty of choice and fish especially is good.
There was no entertainment. We found some of the descriptions of the hotel misleading. For example the so called outside restaurant on the beach was closed all the time we were there and appeared to be abandoned. We never did find the one with the picture of tree branched roof, with pretty tables and sea lapping around. IT simply wasn't-there.
There is a pool side snack bar of sorts i.e About half a dozen tables and shades for snacks only and ice cream etc.
However, what we really objected to was the attitude of the management as opposed to the staff of the restaurant.
The first thing one sees on entering the room is a list of " HOuse rules" on the bed side cabinet. One insists that the mini bar must not be used as a fridge or clients will be charged for the hotel beverages, used or not. Secondly the use of electrical appliances in the room was forbidden and included a travel kettle and irons etc. Irons we could understand but travel kettles?
I immediately went to reception and told them that both of us needed to keep medicines cold in the mini bar and for the same medical reasons ( Diabetes) we did not want the shelves of alcohol and our soft drinks needed to be sugar free. My wife also drinks copious amounts of tea and could we use the kettle. Both requests were refused. This is the first time in very many hotels all over the world that we have been refused this facilities and it was clear the hotel wanted as much profit as possible from its clients regardless even of medical needs. It was suggestd to me that we borrow a vacumn flask and buy our drinks from the bar!!!
Another annoyance was the hotel refusing to change travellers cheques on the orders of the management.
It has to be said that we did enjoy our holiday but we do not expect to be treated like children with " house rules". Shame, because basically it is a good and comfortable hotel with decent food and excellent surroundings but the attitude of the management is sadly lamentable and out of date and they need a kick up the pants!
We have reported all this to " Travel Options"
We of cours, like everyone else we spoke to, did use the mini bar as fridge by using just small bottles of soft drinks and milk and we hid the kettle after each use in our personal posessions!

Stopped in main building, Annexe is older not all have air conditioning or balconies .The hotel was very clean with first class air conditioning which was essential in our 35++'.
Sea view on lower levels not so good because of big trees. Good double glazing kept out any noise from bars and hotels nearby
The staff were excellent helpful and friendly.
the evening food was ok but nothing special, but there was lots of choice for main couses, not so much for desserts (hope you like creme caramel) Cooked breakfast yuk! Continental was fine. Fruit wasn't topped up before breakfast so only apples and oranges left but lots of melon (which i love ) Gala evening
same with a little bit of music. The entertainment was poor (only in the tavern on the week we were there) but there was an ensebble of singers advertised for following week.

Food was a buffet affair, but was well cooked and a different menu on most days.
The hotel rooms and reception were pristine. The staff were helpful and very friendly. On most evenings there was a singer in one of the bars, not my cup ot tea, but most of the other residents there enjoyed it.
The hotel is about 3-4km from Dubrovnik Old Town but a minibus turns up at 10 minutes past the hour and for a princely sum of

The rooms were very basic and small. No issues with cleanliness and the view from the room was lovely but the hotel management attempted to prevent us from using any electrical equipment and left rather odd notes in the room when the chamber maid saw an offending hair dryer! The walk to Dubrovnic would be a challenge for an unfit person and as the hotel was generally 'blue rinse brigade' most used the bus, which to be fair was a good service. The food was generally overcooked, bland and very basic - presumably an attempt to reflect the retirement home food that the majority of holday makers were used to back home. NOT a young couple's ideal hotel but the area was interesting and there was plenty of choice with local restaurants all good value.
