Apart from the hotel there is a small shop, and a Taverna in a superb location above the harbour. There are also a number of outlets offering boat trips, minibus transfers and car hire, a souvenir shop and hair dresser along with the hotel bar (pool table and some game machines).
The immediate area around the hotel is fine but there are a number of derelict hotels nearby - you will pass the back of one as you walk down to the harbour - but these are not any real problem.
The hotel is at the bottom of a fairly long but not too steep road down from the main road that is about a 15 minute walk up. Unless you want to get the cheap local bus into Dubrovnik or Cavat you will not need to do this!
There are 4 stony beaches in the bay: one just north of the hotel and one with a bar just below the swimming pool between the hotel and the harbour. Between the harbour and a small promotory is a small beach where clothing seem optional though there is no formal notice to this effect.
Beyond this is the fourth bay. So there is plenty of choice!
Your holiday rep will offer a number of excursions from one of the big two tour companies, Atlas and Elite. The Hotel reception can give details of the one your rep doesn't as not all tours are the same. These pick you up by coach at the hotel entrance. A good trip is that to the Elafiti Islands with a fish lunch.
Rather than the main tour operators who take you by coach to the Dubrovnik main harbour to pick up a boat, the local boat operator runs a similar trip (at less cost) which takes you all the way by boat leaving from the harbour at 10:10 in the morning. (You transfer to a bigger boat for the main trip at Dubrovnik). Good value. (This boat will also take you to Dubrovnik and back - but see below.)
They also run trips to Cavat, but there is also a local boatman who runs a water taxi and will take you Cavat or the island of Supertar. The cost is a little more but you get drinks on the way. First trip to Cavtat is at 10:00. Highly recommended.
Now, how to get to Dubrovnic. You really need to be there early to walk the walls before its too hot and to avoid the cruise ship groups. The boat gets you there ~ 11 am and that's really too late. A firm in the hotel complex run a shuttle minibus and the first leaves at 8:45 getting there by 9:15. There is also a cheaper tourist bus that leaves at 9:30. We went by minibus and came back by boat - a pretty good compromise. Boats return about every hour from the old town harbour.
The only other trip that we took - with one of the main tour operators - was that to Korcula. This travels along the coast with some stuning views then out along a 77km pensinular which is the local wine growing region. There is then a 15 minute sea crossing to the island where the little medieval walled town was the birth place of Marco Polo. On the way back there is a short stop at Ston where the salt pans are that helped make Dubrovnik rich. A good trip to get a broader picture of the region.

The resort is very clean and quiet.i.e.nowhere near a main road.
If you are self catering, the best restaurant by miles is Kings. This is just 5 minutes walk up and out of the resort. The owner(Blajec)serves only daily fresh sea bass and meats. He cannot do enough for you and the food is wonderful cooked on his open grill.
We ate there most of the holiday and found the atmosphere, location and staff to be the best anywhere in either Plat,Cavtat or Dubrovnic. If you see Blajec say the family from Manchester who ate at his restaurant most of August and saw him at the airport say hello and no garlic!(he will understand).

Our first impression of the resort was "What have we come to?" until we learnt of the history. All the hotels were casualties of war, being only 30 mins from Dubrovnik. Orphee, refurbished, now has sole use of the several beaches, crystal clear, excellent for snorkelling and diving. The disused hotel gardens are a haven for butterflies, amazing insects, swallows and swifts who nest in the hotels. The hotel bus did 8 trips a day to Dubrovnik and 8 to Cavtat. For the taxi boat,we chose the time we returned, free drinks on board.Children loved the fruit boat with it's ringing bell that arrived every afternoon. There were 3 tavernas nearby, a mini market and 3 small shops with souvenirs, beach equipment etc., cheaper than Dubrovnik or Cavtat, car hire, coach trips and adventure activities bookable on site. Everywhere was quiet, even the sea gulls were silent.Being a mountain, rising from the sea,it is not suitable for those with mobility problems. We could have thrown a pebble from our balcony into the sea but it was 55 steps down to the beach from the hotel entrance. We had an amazing 2 weeks. Thank you Orphee.
