We had 14 nights at Hilltop Gardens and had a throughly enjoyable time. Yes it is out of the centre of Paphos, but there is plenty of local transport and taxi's.
Our room was spacious and very clean. The towels were changed every other day and the bed linen every 3days. We were due to leave on the Wednesday morning and our linen was still changed on the Tuesday morning, even though we were leaving the next day.
There are plenty of good restaurants just a short walk away. The Melania, a traditional restaurant, is on the main road to the right of Hilltop. Very good restaurant and family run. Another good place to eat is, Karlina's,which is on the main road towards Paphos, a very good menu for all times of the day. The staff are very friendly and good fun.
This was the first time we have been to Cyprus and we will definately be back again and stay at Hilltop Gardens. Thanks to everyone for an enjoyable holiday.

stayed at hilltop gardens apartments.they are in the middle of nowhere.no local tavernas or restaurants for at least a ten minute walk and then there is only a few.you then have to walk another ten minutes for more bars etc.paphos centre and the habour are only accessible by taxi or bus or else you wouldn't reach it till midnight!having to catch taxis every evening is just another holiday expense.hotel pool and snack bar are ok.wouldn't recomend eating there in the evenings as everything is frozen and cooked on a hotplate behind the bar so not very restaurant like.the bar closes at different times depending on who is working and will close very early if you laugh or raise your voices too much.day staff very miserable.building site across the road but no work going on just more depressing views.would never go back to hilltop gardens.

Well having read the reports about this hotel i'd say I had a mixed holiday. I went with my parents and two brothers and it peaked at about 45 degrees during my time in the two weeks we spent there.
We arrived on a Tuesday night and I have to say my first impressions were not that good. We were taken to our rooms and left to fathom out how not to open a door, after five minutes we got in and were greated with a very spacious room. But on further investigation we found there was no air conditioning. As it was around ten at night we wandered down to the bar following our dumping of the cases on the beds. We went and ordered some food and how we regret doing that. My two brothers ordered chicken and mushroom pie and me and my parents ordered mousaka. An hour an a half later my brothers got their pies, ten minutes after that they got their chips. Then twenty minutes later the rest of us got a plate with salad on it, then twenty minutes later the mousaka came. It was nice but anything would have been following the wait. Things could only have gotten better.
The next morning we got up for the welcome meeting and following that set about exploring the hotel and things. Slight worry, the pool table slanted to the right as it wasn't level. When we got back to the room following exploring the hotel we saw there was a karaoke on a Thursday and a disco Saturdays. In total, 3 people sang and nobodydanced at the disco.
As the week went on things stayed the same, what I will note though is the tennis court. It was free which made a nice change, but it was always brushed and hosed just before the managers husband played on it, never just before we played on it.
In our final week, things finally got so much better. The bar staff were fantastic, some of the reception staff were great as well. In our final week I made many many friends and it was that rather than the hotel itself that made my holiday a fantastic place. Following a night out to Fat Mamas or Joannas or Rigas we would spend the next few hours in the bar next to the pool talking and laughing together, its what a holiday is about. The second week the karaoke was better as more people sang and the disco got better when I got a few people up dancing with the help of my mum.
All in all, it could have been alot worst had it not been for the people. Jo and Andrea on the bar deserve a medal for the hours they do and they were all friendly. As was the Bauld headed night bar man. Granted, some of the staff seemed to have little understanding of customer service but I think one was the managers daughter so it can be forgiven. Cleanliness wasn't really an issue. The main downfall for me was the lack of air conditioning, especially with the weather as it was.
A tip for anybody going with Thomas Cook, go on the rep night, unlimited food, unlimited wine and spirits and soft drinks and good entertainment.

Was a bit unsure about going here after having read previous reports, but we were pleasantly surprised.
Okay the accomodation isn't 5-star but we didn't pay 5-star prices (and anyway 5-star were a rubbish 80's band). The place was clean and everything worked - if your looking for somewhere to be your base while you explore Paphos and the local area it's fine.
When we first arrived we had a problem with the locking of a patio door on our appartment, but we were moved when we complained and the new appartment was fine.
The staff are all very friendly and the quality of food served in the bar is very good. The shop, although slightly more expensive then the local 'supermarkets' 10 minutes walk away, is not the giant rip off that some people have written it is.
Our appartment was cleaned 10 times during our 2 week stay (not sundays & not on cleaners day off). We had plenty of clean towels & bed linen supplied.
The pool was fine, cleaned daily and used by loads of people staying there - nobody was complaining about it.
We were there in May and the weather was good all the time but temperature wasn't into the 30's yet - this meant the lack of aircon wasn't an issue but I guess it could be if you stayed in a really hot month - you have been warned!
Tips for a successful stay - 1) don't bother cooking in your appartment eat out - its cheap and theres loads of good local places:try Karlinas & the Outback, 2) due to location you will probably won't want to walk into paphos - either get a bus (short walk and 50 cents) or get reception to get you a taxi (agree price of about

We went to hilltop gardens in September and the heat was unbearable, we did not have any air conditioning so we hired two fans which really did not do anything just blew hot air around, we had food around the pool which was ok, the staff were misrable the supermarket on site was a little dear. We had are sheets changed twice a week along with clean towels. The entertainment was not to good once a week,we found we were out of the way and as we didnt have transport we either got the bus or a taxi was were both cheap. In think when we go back to paphos again we would get somewhere which was closer to the harbour, which was very nice.

I stayed two weeks at hilltop gardens and I enjoyed every minute. Yes the area is being developed but the potential in this area is great and when it is finished it will be fantastic. There is plans to build a marina just down the road from hilltop gardens which help the surrounding area. The hotel was about two minutes walk to the huge raod of local bars and restaurants and a five minute walk to the bus stop which took you into the town of Paphos (it only costs 50p too!!!)The majority of cars beeping are taxis they beep for fares, ok there were a few young men on the prowl but not enought o ruin a holiday and they would only beep (wheres the harm)
The hotel itself was great. We stayed in one of the newer apartments, which was clean and tidy. No cats, no bugs. The pool was clean and there was never too many guests and the manager put a stop to the sunbed hogging.
Overall a great holiday. One complaint they put far too much alcohol in those cocktails.

Stayed at these apartments in August 2000, we were given a room covered in mould, the walls, the curtains, everywhere. The room was filthy, rusty cooker, black mould all around the supposed to be white rubber seal on the fridge door, the cutlery drawer full off crumbs and dirt, hadn't been cleaned in months, dishes the same, supposed to be self catering no way would you want to eat in there.
We complained straight away as did other people, but according to the rep there was no other accomodation available, so we had to put up with the cesspit for 3 days, we were then moved to another room, after much argument with the female manager who didn't seem to grasp the fact that people actualy go on holiday to relax not to be put through an endurrance test and just to line her pockets.
The other room was better than the first (no mould)but had the same standard of cleanliness, I'll add at this piont that I don't mind roughing it as I've camped many a times in the past and I'm not a cleanliness freak, but you couldn't eat in this place it was so grubby, it was also crawling with ants. I will also add that there's no air conditioning so on the first night there we thought we were going to die it was so hot you could hardly get a breath. I found an orange puddle on the worktop in the morning, my daughter had left some cheese slices out she'd been feeding to the many cats (getting rid of food we couldn't eat), that's how bad it was, also beware the giant cockroaches, so you have to keep your windows closed.
The surrounding area is waste ground and you have to get the bus into Paphos, the local men are constantly leering and pester everyone in a skirt, and as you approach the Hilltop Garden there are no street lights it's totally dark.
I'm fully aware that what bothers some people doesn't bother others, that we've all got differant standards, maybe some people had better rooms maybe not, I'd say from my experience if you've got any standards at all don't stay here.

I stayed at this location in July 03. Lets just say nothing has changed apart from the waste land you were referring to is now a building site! Our holiday was initially for 14 nights, we stayed at hilltop gardens for 5! The rest was at Venus beach hotel.
We had to pay an extra 300 cypriot pounds to stay at the venus beach but I would of paid anything to get out of this slum. We too have stayed at cheaper places and both of us don't mind 'roughing it' now again but I don't think this place has ever been cleaned since it opened. If anyone is planning on going there, DON'T.

Got married in Cyprus in 2002.
We stayed at the hill top and we thought it was great! Our room was clean and tidy no creepy crawlers at all, the only thing that was creepy was the cocky bar man!!
The walk to the bus stop was not far at all! it was dark to walk about at night! but hey who cares when you have had a beer!
