After staying at this hotel three previous times the last in 2002.
we would never return here, the standards have dropped substantialy. The room was in a negleted state and was only cleaned twice whilst we stayed with only the beds being made daily.
It is a shame that this hotel has been let to go
downhill as it is more akin to a poor 3star now, it used to be a nice hotel (never a true 5 star) that was in a good location, with friendly staff, that was good value for money.
We were informed that the CTO had made the hotel close for redecoration at the start of 2004.
We would agree with the other reviews that it seems that the hotel is being run on a shoe string.

After I had read the reports from previous occupants of this hotel I thought that I was in for a week from hell. Actually what we found was a nice clean hotel, with generally friendly staff. You had the one or two who were a bit poker faced but on the whole the staff were very friendly and helpful. There are areas where the maintainance could be better, perhaps just a lick of paint!
As for the food and service we could not fault it, perhaps if being picky the presentation could have been better.
We had lunch on one occasion and the menu was limited with not a great deal of choice than the evening buffet.
The room was good, very clean and well equipped a good sized balcony, and the bathroom was clean and tidy, the mini bar well stocked but you could not put your own water in there for fear of charge!
I think that in peak season it could become very crowded and the service might suffer, but on the whole it was a pleasant place to stay. Having stayed in nothing below a five star I think that honestly this is a 3/4 star but a good one at that. You have to understand that things do go wrong at these places but if they are rectified early that is good service, all in all a pleasant experience.

We arrived and were shown to a very small room with old bedclothes and stains on the ceiling that I would have rated 3 star (not 5 star as advertised). The second room was a little better (and cleaner) but still not the 'luxury' accommodation we had booked.
The operator had advertised a number of facilities that did not exist - a dive centre, several restaurants (there was only 1 if you discount the pool bar)and the gym and sauna were operated by a seperate company and chargable - everything seemed to be run on a shoe string and some of the photographs on LastMinute.com's web page were actually of a different hotel!
The food varied widely - some was OK but generally bland and over-cooked, but the staff were awful - I can't recall a smile all week.
Last but not least, I don't remember seeing such poor entertainment at any other hotel - Karaoke nights and bingo is not my idea of a 5 star experience.

Venus Beach Hotel Paphos Cyprus.
Sited between two huge areas of barren and rocky ground, there is no way on earth that this hotel is 5 star. How they wangled this classification is beyond me.
One only needs to visit neighbouring 4 and 5 star hotels to see the difference. This place only just about merits 4 star, and is less good than local 3 star hotels where we have stayed.
The builder should have been shot for not finishing it off.
The bedroom too was shabby, with one poor quality wardrobe door literally hanging off its slide rail. We also copped for a tree outside our window completely blocking our side sea view. No other rooms were offered. No refund was negotiated.
The grassy sunbed area of the garden was threadbare, sloped steeply and in many places was covered in litter - fag ends, bottle tops etc.
It had no beach, just a rocky outcrop. Perhaps it should be rebranded Venus Rocky Outcrop Hotel.
There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom.
There is even a notice on the minibar door that they would charge one pound per day per article found inside the minibar not put there by the hotel. I.e. if you fancied keeping an apple cool, and you were caught, it cost you a CY pound. How mean and low is that?
Prices charged by the hotel for every day things like refreshments were indecent.
The bus service to Paphos or Coral Bay was very poor. Because nearest bus stops to the hotel are at the mid-point of each bus route the buses were very often full up by the time they went by, and would therefore not stop to let you on. They only come along every 20 minutes, so if 4 on the trot fail to stop you tend to be rather unhappy.
Breakfast was generally pretty good.
Dinner was supposed to be attended by people wearing smart casual. This was not adhered to by the various oiks who opted for the vest-tattoo-and shorts look.
Dinner was always the same but called something different each night. The soup was poor, followed by a good salad, followed by hot meats and very few vegetables often served at lukewarm temperature. Paradise for haters of chips. Not one served all fortnight. The deserts were always first class.
The only other aspect of the hotel one could call first class was its swimming pool.
Would I stay here again? I should live that long!

We arrived at around 1.00am and were taken to 2 rooms, one of which was uninhabitable due to the stench of old cigarette smoke. Both rooms were old and tatty. First thing in the morning we asked to be moved and, to be fair, the housekeeping manager was sympathetic and agreed that the standard was inadequate and not to the quality of a 5* hotel. I personally would rate this place as a poor 3*.
The food was adequate, barely, but not fresh and ill prepared.
The senior staff in the restaurant were bad mannered, untrained and lied to us on two occasions regarding the availability of tables outside. On one occasion, the manager told a guest to WAIT A MINUTE after being asked for a new fork !
The reception staff very rarely smiled and, upon leaving last night, after picking some bags up to load the car, said "You owe us some money you know !"
I duly paid my outstanding bar bill to a woman who would be better employed by the ex soviet army.
I would not recommend this hotel to any traveller, under any circumstances
