No complaints regarding the polis village centre or the local beach area. There are plenty of places to eat good wholesome local dishes, the standard as a whole was excellent. The local people are a joy to know, a warm welcome is always available especialy to those who go out of their way to go native for the duration of their holiday.

Polis is a small town dependent on the tourist trade with lots of restaurants but without the McDonalds and tackiness of the larger resorts. Plenty of great restaurants and some nice local fast food places if that's your thing. There were bars and one disco that stayed open later (we didn't go bopping though) but the town does have a sleepy feel to it at night. There is a small museum with interesting but limited exhibits, a fantastically friendly tourist office. Local taxis are good but some of the drivers are maniacs. Good car and bike hire in the town - we had a four wheel drive and explored the hills, the Akamas peninsula wilderness and some of the remoter villages not on the tourist trail. Plenty of off roading for the more adventurous. Beaches were good near Polis and the sea was nice to swim in. We prefered some of the little quiet beaches on the road to the Aphidites Pool near Lachi (better check my spellings folks). Most of the locals speak good English and you will come across some of the Germanic and European hippies from the 60's and 70's who have stayed running some of the local shops and facilities. Several arty places showing local painters works. The food is a real mix, fresh fish and seafood in one place and then crabsticks in the next. They seem to think that all Brits eat meat and two veg with chips but the local mezes are superb too - just be prepared not to finish some of them as they can be huge. We discovered that in some places a mixtures of starters was sufficient for two. Our favourite places were the fish tavern in the central square and the poshier restaurant near the museum with columns outside and a long name I can't remember with a garden restaurant out the back and that does delicious octopus as well as traditional steaks and dishes. Some of the places recommended by the guide books were closed while we were there not sure if they were on hols or shut down permanently eg The Lemon Tree.

Trips we made included a day in Pathos touring the mosaics and tombs - fantastic places but take a sunhat lots of suncream and plenty of water as they cover very big areas and in the heat it can be a bit much. We also went up to the border area and looked at the abandoned villages - bombed out remainders of the conflict - very sad good for artistic photographs though. We found in the villages nearer the borders several East Europeans and Russians on holiday and working in the bars and restaurants. We drove up to the monastery in the hills but it was buzzing with tourists so we drove on to visit an old potter (in her eighties or nineties) who entertained us with her home brew. We saw the Mouflon in the forestry enclosure (who looked very bored) but were lucky to see some wild ones on our off roading on the mountain tracks - we spoke to some expats and locals who have been out there decades and they've never seen the wild ones so that was our holiday trophy memory. You will see alot of goats and goatherds in the countryside and we have a recording of their bells which will forever remind us of the place (and we we'll remember that goat smell). There is a hilltop restaurant above the Akamas wilderness (?) where you sit under grape wines with fantastic views but get there early as they run out of food in the afternoon.

For those sensitive about animal cruelty and such local customs be aware that this is a hunting and shooting place and they shoot everything and then hang the birds and beasties out to dry on their roofs so be warned. Some nights you can hear the shooting. Also, in the mountains you will see people and animals living in some really poor conditions which is a real contrast to the luxury villas and places on the west coast of the island.

This was our first trip to Cyprus and there were lots of things we loved but one of us did find the climate too hot and the other found it fantastic and went on 5 mile runs round the fields some mornings! The place is a full of history, cultures, food, sights and contrasts. We loved it and would go back - the arguments are what time of year we would venture back. If we get a chance we will upload some of the photos we took to share with you. Excuse the spellings in this review it is a while since we got back and I haven't got my guidebook at my side to dip into.

Polis is small with about 15 restaurants. It is pretty around the village centre, but very rural when you take the 5 minute walk from The Lovers Nest .Be careful though as there is no pavements. The coop supermarket has everything you will need if your self catering. You can catch a bus from Polis to Paphos, it costs £1.60 per person and takes around 35 minutes.Latchi, however in my opinion has the better restaurants and one in particluar, Faros, is well worth a visit. We walked to Latchi which took around 20 mins, but caught a taxi back which cost £3.There is a lovely wild beach at Latchi, which only hardy sun worshippers could put up with.If you want nightlife don't come here but if you want a relaxed easy lifestyle and a bit of real Cyprus go now before the developers really move in.

Cleanliness, well trying to get there, but it's Greece!
A place for couples. There is nothing for Teenages or families with small children and we saw lots of very bored kids!
Saddlers Bar in the square area, good for Fresh Orange juice, coffee and toast in a morning and a place to pick up E Mails from home in their Internet Cafe Area,Fast connection. Also nice to people watch on a night, they have started to do a Saturday Midnight Tranny Night. Sunday seems closed due maybe to the night before ;o}
Lots of Restaurants and Bars, Think in a couple of years it will be like Pafos, which is a shame, Cyprus is really becoming the Blackpool of Greece and this was the one last remaining places to enjoy a peaceful Greek holiday.
Beach down at the campsite great fun, Lovely Bar which has a bands night on Saturday Nights, lovely place to cool down and again people watch, some good music on.
July very very hot ~ didn't get bitten once, saw NO MOSIS! only very big spiders!!
Certainly go again and hope to in September.
Ho yes before I forget KANALLI FISH TAVERN @ POMOS POINT. If you get a car or bike drive up to Pomos its about 25kiloms toward the boarder, this is a excellent place to swim, snorkel and has the old fashion deck chairs with little stools and umbrellas, two for £5, its a real chill place, sunbath, swim, snorkel then go to the Tavern for lunch and a carafe of wine or a beer. Food Excellent, Fish Meze £7.00 and loads and loads of it, always someone eating or drinking, Sunday all the Greeks seem to invade it, so must be good. Lovely sunsets

This resort was very quite though it did offer a lot of restaurants.

The resort we found to be very clean and looked after.

The beach was not sandy but mainly small stones. The water was extremely clean and clear but very salty. The beach was very clean and tidy. Restaurants were available and some Saturday nights they staged live music.

There were not many shops for which you could buy clothes and items of this nature, it consisted mainly of souvenier shops.

We would definately visit this resort again as it was peaceful, clean, friendly and just what we were looking for for a nice relaxing holiday.

Polis is a very lively small town with beautiful scenery all around.

The people are very friendly and the restaurants are excellent, we tried several over the two weeks we were there.

The beach is about 25 minutes walk from Lovers nest apartments, and five minutes by car, entry to the beach is through a camp site but everyone is very laid back.

There is a lovely beach bar which sells excellent food at very reasonable prices and the beach is quite quiet considering how small the whole town is.

In the evenings the town comes alive there are many bars and restaurants to choose from.

We went on an Akamas safari with Theo safari's it really made our holiday, wonderful informative drivers we went to places we would never have known about or been able to reach without these people's expertise, included in the price was lunch in a small village in the mountains, wine and fruit juice were included.

We as a family believe you really need a car to explore the Trodos mountains and enable you to drive to Paphos and surrounding areas.

Last but not least, Christian's optical house in Polis is the place to buy designer specticals and sunglasses at half the cost we pay here in the UK, if you have a prescription take it with you or book an appointment with her, they are ready in less than a week, also we get tax back, which is another bonus!
