This hotel was advertised as a 4* at a very reasonable price. The rooms were spacious and clean, well equipped with air-conditioning, opening windows, minibar, hairdryer, safe (no charge), plenty of storage space and mirrors, nice bathroom, toiletries, TV, phone and clock radio. In fact, everything you needed except tea/ coffee facilities. I wish we had taken the kettle, but didn't bother as it was only 3 nights! Bed was large and comfortable.
On the down side the soft furnishings were a little dated. There was very little traffic noise but you could hear the church clock chiming each quarter-hour. It certainly wasn't loud enough to wake you up though.
Breakfast was a bit basic- things ran out quickly and were a bit slow to be replenished. There was cereal, bread and toaster, scrambled or boiled eggs, scary-looking sausages, meat, fish, cheese, plenty of cakes/ pastries and some fresh fruit and yogurt. Sounds better than it looked, really, and I wouldn't say I'm very picky. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel, it didn't look very busy and on the Wednesday night appeared to be closed.
We were happy with the location. There were some very nice bars and restaurants close by that served lovely food and didn't charge touristy prices for food or drinks, especially the cocktail bar/ restaurant just behind the church.
We didn't need to use the very convenient public transport as much as we thought- everything in the old town area was within 15-20 minutes walk. It was a 2 short tram ride journey to get to the top of the castle which saved a long steep climb and left us with enough energy to enjoy the castle and the walk back.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. Public areas were well kept, and there were plenty of maps and tourist information available. Just one lift, but we never had to wait long.
We felt very much at home in this hotel and would use it again.
