We arrived very late at night at The Mena House Oberoi and we were very quickly checked into our room. We had booked a double room and we were not disappointed. The rooms had obviously been recently refurbished and were in pristine condition. Everything was in the room that you would expect to find in a 5 star establishment.
It was only when we awoke the following morning that we really appreciated the wonderful location that we found ourselves in. The Great Pyramid was towering over the hotel swimming pool and really looked magnificent.
We entered the beautifully ornate and decorated breakfast room and were greeted by very friendly, courteous and helpful staff. There was an excellent selection to choose from.
After breakfast we went on a full day private guided tour of Cairo and Giza, and when we returned to the hotel we retired to our room for a little rest. After being suitably rested we went to the restaurant for our evening meal. The setting was stunning. Imagine eating a meal as the sun was going down and the Great Pyramid casting its shadow. It really was like being in a time machine. There was quite a varied menu and the quality was very good, I would recommend some of the Indian dishes especially the Kashmiri Rogan Josh.
When dinner was over we retired to our room for an early might as we were being picked up at the hotel the next morning at 05:15. To our surprise we enquired about breakfast boxes but we were told that breakfast started at 03:30. We got our early morning call and packed up and informed reception who had our luggage collected from the room. The breakfast at 04:45 in the morning was a good as the previous day.
So at 05:15 we bade farewell to a beautiful hotel in one of the most stunning locations you could imagine and I would recommend this hotel very highly.

What a fantastic Hotel. From the moment you walk into the hotel you know your onto a winner.
The hotel is divided into two parts the Old Place and the Garden wing. We stayed at the Garden wing and had a pyramid facing views and the sight was just great.
The other amazing thing about the hotel were its restaurants 'The Mougal' is one of the best Indian places to eat the service and atmosphere there was great.

Our reception in the main building of the hotel was very welcoming especially since our cases were then taken down by truck to our garden rooms - not a great distance. We had a view of the Great Pyramid over the top of the very green and clean gardens. The choice of restaurants was excellent and the food good in all of them. You could walk to the Pyramids within 5 minutes during the day and take a 10 minute taxi drive at night to the Sound and Light (different entrance). The hotel pool area is in the middle of the gardens with plenty of sunbeds and shade and the bar with its view of the pyramids was a cool oasis of a different kind after a long dusty day.
The only criticism we had was that the room looked as if it was due for refurbishment and the air conditioning was not particularly efficient.
The staff were very friendly and the service was good throughout. We only stayed 3 days and wished we were there for much longer.

The Mena House is one of the most luxurious hotels we have ever experienced, with crystal chandeliers and marble floors. We stayed in the Garden Wing and paid extra for the Pyramid View (well worth the extra). Spotlessly clean throughout. Gardens well maintained and had a lovely large circular pool with plenty of loungers in the gardens.
Five minutes walk out of the main gate, turn right and you are at the Pyramids. Easy to do this excursion on your own - we felt quite safe doing this. Cairo museum is a must. As is the Sound and Light show at Giza.
We ate in the hotel every night and the food was delicious and reasonably priced for a 5 star hotel!.
There is a Pizza Hut next to the pyramids if you fancy one.
Staff at the hotel very friendly and attentive.
Plenty of taxis if you need to go further afield, which are reasonably priced. If you go to Cairo once in your lifetime, stay at this hotel.
I would definitely recommend it. We went in April and it was in the 90's.
