This hotel should be rated as 2*+ simply due to lack of facilities.eg. on a cool evening there is nowhere to go apart from sitting in the restaraunt all night or in the tent that passes for the pool bar.
On arrival we were given a small twin bedroom without a balcony.
We requested a room change next morning and got a large double room,no problem.
Food was much better than expected, plenty of choice even for fussy eaters like myself.beer was not watered down,4.5% white wine very good quality and available all day as was tea or coffee.
Getting a sunbed round pool no problem free beach towel every day.
Staff very friendly from top management to room cleaner.

I stayed in arena inn for one week, i only paid 25 EUR per night incl. breakfast. I booked directly with the hotel.
I am a scubadiver so my report might be a bit colored from my needs.
Breakfast was quite bad (that said, I found most of the food in el gouna to hold quite low standard)
The location is very good for single travelers because its just a short walk to the "village centre" where there some pubs and restaurants.
The diving off el gouna is very good, and I belive less crowded that in Hurgahada. Another difference is that since el gouna is kind of "closed" there are noe hazzel from street vendors and such. Everyone is very friendly.
My room was good, clean, nice bed and bathroom. Allthough my minibar was empty... I dont know why.
When I stayed there the place was packed with German charter touritsts arriving in busses and occupying the whole reception area from time to time, but I guess that how it is staying in a "resort" place.
I never ate dinner or other meals at the hotel.
I did have some massages in their spa, and it was ok, but nothing special. The Thai massage is the best.
All in all I would stay there again because the value of the room is very very good, but I would never live there just to hang around the pool or go to the beach, that looks to boring. But if you are diving the place is cheap and good enough.

This hotel was excellent value for money and an excellent base. The rooms have plenty of space for all your bits and bobs... wardrobe smallish but there was also a worktop with wallcupboards above, some rooms had a sink too, so everything you needed could be stored out of sight!
We stayed on a b and b basis, and there were very few THomas Cook guest here, the majority being Dutch, German and Egyptian. The breakfast was adequate and served in a dining area on the lagoon which was very pleasant. We didnt eat here in the evenings so cant comment on dinner.
The location really coulnt be better - walking distance from downtown areas, bank and bus station. A lovely air condition bus runs hourly to the beach which is a short distance away.
The staff really did go out of their way to make your stay pleasant... the only complaint we had was the bar. As this predominantly is an all inclusive hotel the bar staff seemed very reluctant to serve us, as this incurred them having to make out a slip, someone on the end of the bar acted as cashier, never seemed to have change, and tried to get us to 'sign' for everything which we didnt want to do, as you always end up with an unpleasant surprise when settling your bill at the end of the holiday! I think if the Arena installed a till in this area things would run a lot smoothly.
There is a pool table in the bar area which was free to use, as were all pool tables in the resort.
The pool... well this was a refreshing change - there always seem to be beds available, no matter what time of day you arrived, and fresh towels were also provided. Nobody getting up at 7 to reserve beds!
We shall definately return to El GOuna, and would probably stay at the Arena Inn again too.
