I have recently returned from a holiday at the Makadi Palace. I have stayed in Riu hotels in the Dominican and Mexico and this hotel is certainly on par with them.

There are a couple of things that need to be addressed by the hotel management, the first being the entertainment, it just is not suitable for a family resort, the animation team try hard, but it just isn't right. The shows are much too late for families 10.45pm and Moulin Rouge did not go down well with me let alone my 7 year old son!!!

The second is the lobby bar which unfortunately is not "all inclusive" at any time, which obviously means it is deserted. The lobby opens onto a beautiful terrace with views over the whole resort, but as this area is served by the lobby bar, yes you guessed its deserted too! We mentioned this to Rory the rep (excellent), who said he was constantly telling them but to no avail, I'm surprised they haven't caught on yet. Usually the reception area of a hotel is a hive of activity with people coming and going, meeting up for a drink etc, but here at times it felt almost library like, I wouldn't have been surprised if someone said "ssshhhh"!!!!

So now I've had my moan the good bits. The hotel is beautiful it looks like an Arabian palace. The whole layout and design of the place is one of space and relaxation.

This is a large resort with several pools all well maintained and exceptionally clean all have sunbeds with umbrellas surrounding them, there are even terraces slightly away from the pools if you want even more peace and quiet. We went main weeks Jul/Aug and getting a sunbed at anytime of the day wasn't a problem. The pool area's are served by drinks waiters who will bring you cool drinks all day.

The beach area is large with many sunbeds and umbrellas, if you walk to the right of the hotel you can walk straight into a sandy part of the sea. The snorkeling was fantastic and even if you don't snorkel the fish you can see just below the surface are breathtaking.

The food in the main buffet restaurant was always well presented and hot. The choice of the speciality restaurants when we stayed was fabulous. The Thai was exceptionally good, as was the Caribbean in the Grand next door, the Italian and Lebanese. The Discovery in the Palace was closed for refurbishment, but looked ready to re open soon, as did the Botanical Restaurant. The Rendezvous was a popular choice with my children, lots of freshly cooked pancakes and ice cream from 12 each day along with burgers, hot dogs etc.

The suites were always very clean, very large with the biggest bed ever!! Plenty of wardrobe space, TV, mini fridge, safety deposit box etc and a huge bathroom with separate loo!!

The hotels virtually in the middle of nowhere, but this certainly did not affect our enjoyment. If you want shops etc outside the hotel this probably isn't the resort for you. The hotel does run a service to Hurghada which was an experience and Makadi Bay its self is a sort taxi ride away and has shops, pharmacy etc.

In all if you want a fantastic hotel, great food, total relaxation all accompanied by the friendliest people ever then this is the hotel for you.

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Makadi Palace Hotel. What can I say? It was fabulous.

The hotel in general really resembled a Palace, particularly at night when it is all lit up. The all inclusive was fine apart from the mini bar in the rooms for which you had to pay. This was not made clear in the Airtours brochure. Also some items in the a la carte restaurants also have to be paid for e.g. if you have prawn dishes at the Thai Garden restaurant. (Only about

Stayed for a week in early march and couldnt ask for better value for money. Rooms were beautiful, hotel was out of this world, food was more continental but lovely and weather was superb.

the pool was absolutely freezing, but very clean. the sea was so hard to cool down in as you had to walk sometimes 150 metres to get deeper than your knees, and in the process get really cut up by the coral.

Would definatley go back to this hotel ,but maybe when the weathers warmed up the pool a bit more!

The hotel is locatel in Makadi Bay, the last hotel resort before the desert, at the beach, on the recifs.

There are several swimming pools, 5 restaurants, 2 kids pools, 7 tennis courts, one kids club, 2 clubs, and life entertainment, day and night, by an external foreign company.

Arabic and (sometimes) English and German spoken. The hotel has 1400 staff and can accommodate around 2000 people.

The Makadi Palace shares it's facilities with the Grand Makadi (and vice-versa). This means you have a choice of over half a dozen pools, a dozen restaurants and many bars.

The rooms were spacious and very clean, the only let down was the finish - the hotel is new and it looks like the builders were rushed! AI meant all soft drinks and locally produced alcohol included, the local beer and wine was perfectly drinkable. Non-alcoholic cocktails for kids.

The restaurants were all good, worse was the seafood restaurant in the Grand, nothing particularly wrong with it just not as good as the others. Best buffet restaurant we found was Al Fresco, oriental theme.

The pool area was excellent, lots of sunbeds available any time of day, frequent waiter service. Several pools, very clean but exceptionally cold! Around the pool area there were a couple of bars/restaurants for lunch, we found the best was Rendevous where they had a daily barbeque, pancakes and ice-creams.

We avoided organised entertainment but found the piano bar, Stan Getz to be very good, relaxed atmosphere with good piano player.

Hotel staff were all excellent, we would definitely go back.

The hotel isn't quite finished and there is still some building work going on during the day.

The Hotel itself is spotlessly clean. Although the design and planning of the hotel is such that it takes a few days to work out where your going!!! The appearance is marvelous but if there is one critisism to make it is that it is a nook and cranny layout. A map to get you around the hotel would be a great help.
It is actually joined to its sister hotel the Grand Makadi bay and it seems you can use eithers facilities (at the moment).

Food wise there are the normal buffet restaurants plus 3 a la carte (Asian, Italian and Oriental)restaurants. The food is of a high standard but can get a little repetetive if you use the same place so move around the restaurants available.

The location is in the middle of nowhere. Makadi bay is in its infancy development wise and there isn't a lot about. You are about 20 minutes away from Hurghada and there is a shuttle coach service which runs 2 hourly from 10am till midnight from the hotel to the Grand Resort hotel in Hurghada, returning again on a 2 hourly basis from 1pm till 1am. A taxi should cost around 50 Egyptian pounds either way.

The Hotel staff are excellent and do go more than the extra mile. They obviously put a lot of effort into this and it does show.

As for the entertainment the animation team are like most other teams (NAFF)so we steered well clear of them.

There was nightly entertainment at the discovery restaurant which doubled up as one of the all inclusive bars. There would be a dance act on every night, oriental, russian, african dance groups, your spinning dancer. This was filled out with a couple of resident serbian girl singers, karaoke style. The waitors and barstaff are a great bunch and are possibly more entertaining than the entertainment.

The pools are lovely and the beach is nice and sandy but you will need footwear to go into the sea as it is very rocky.

Myself and my sister went to the Grand Makadi palace for a quiet holiday. Everything about this hotel was just simply outstanding. The service from the staff was of the highest quality available and the surroundings were absolutely beautiful!

While we were staying in the hotel there was construction work onsite not far from the rooms and I must say how impressed I was that I didn
