Cleanliness's was good
the food left a lot to be desired we were only there a week & the meals were repeated several times
The main restaurant was always crowded & very busy
The location nice if you just want to lay about& soak up the sun
This hotel is new built is well laid out but to walk from the beech to the restaurants takes you a good 10 mins up hill.
Staff some were very amateurish in the way they organised things especially the reception personnel
Entertainment was very poor
Note This hotel does not cater for the English

The Carols Hotel was a disappointment as it did not live up to its 5 star rating. On the plus side, the grounds were kept immaculate and it did have a situation on the beach. Rooms were large with a very big walk in shower. On the down side, food was mostly luke warm, even when the restaurant had just opened. Theme nights were supposedly every night, but the food seemed to be the same, with different names - very strange. Restaurant was just like a canteen and too small for its thousand guests. Most mealtimes there was lack of suitable glasses and cups were of short supply. Toaster was broken. Sheets were not changed for six days and, even then, only after we asked for clean linen. Not suitable for the less able bodied as very hilly with many steps to negotiate some of which were very badly lit. Animation Team did not communicate with guests for times of events and seemed only interested in running Aqua Gym and aerobics.

Only got back from Carols Makadi Bay on Saturday morning (23rd June) and just had to write and tell everyone what a brilliant place it is. Was unfortunate enough of the eighth day of our fortnight's holiday to slip on a step and break a bone in my ankle - this was due to a guest spilling something on our apartment steps, not the fault of the cleaners.
Both my husband and myself had been treated very well up to my accident but afterwards, well I was totally blown away by the kindness of literally everyone who was working there, from cleaners, waiters, gardeners bar staff, beach and pool attendants, right through to the restaurant manager Hossieny Ahmed and his assistant Mohamed Salman and all the front of house staff, including reception and customer services, no-one could have done more for me and I truly was treated like royalty. Even Amr Haroun, Front Office Manager, sent me a lovely letter together with a large plate of fresh fruit.
The complex itself is some thirty five minutes drive from Hurghada, although there is a twice daily return shuttle bus from the complex costing five Euros each return, there are also taxis standing at the complex and the cost is twenty five Euros per taxi return to Hurghada, so if you want more than the complex can give, that is an option for you but I must admit, I personally wasn't that impressed with Hurghada itself.
There are a dozen or so shops on the complex itself and it looks as if there will be more shortly in the upstairs area near the Italian restaurant.
There are actually three al a carte restaurants - the Italian, the Oriental (Egyptian) and the Harbour Sea Food restaurant on the beach. If you go to the Oriental especially, for less than a tenner a couple, you can get a brilliant three course meal but a word of warning, don't purchase a bottle of wine from there otherwise it will cost you twelve pounds fifty pence, instead request free glasses from the main restuarant - the rose is extremely palatable.
There are six swimming pools, a pool bar serving snacks and drinks, plus three further drinks bars, two of which you could actually swim up to. There is nothing wrong with the food, in fact you are spoilt for choice, although if you want chips, chips and more chips then go to the pool bar cos you won't get them in the main restaurant.. Rooms are large and well furnished with two small double beds in each, a mini fridge and even tea and coffee making facilities (including kettle and mugs).
Cabaret is varied but the animation team work hard and there is always something going on during the day. Gardeners are working constantly, forever watering the lawns and planting more shrubs.
The complex is huge and it probably takes ten minutes to walk from the main buildings down to the beach but there is a gentle breeze blowing there so keeps the temperatures a little more comfortable as it was nearing 40 degrees each day whilst we were there, however there were always plenty of sunbeds and parasols available wherever you decided to sunbathe.
To sum up a brilliant holiday, hospitality second to none and definitely hope to return again in the not too distant future to enjoy all that is on offer but this time as an able bodied person and not someone in a wheelchair!
So, if you get a good deal (remember it's all-inclusive) take it and enjoy, just remember though, if you are British, you are likely to be in the minority as there are a lot of other nationalities there too, mostly Russian, Italian and German but we all seemed to get on well.

Having read the other reviews before travelling we were slightly disappointed with this hotel.
The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained however our room was close to the sea so it was a very steep walk to the main hotel.
The reception staff were quite helpful but on one occasion they were very rude and appeared too busy to be of any assistance.
The room was very nice, big, and very clean. Beds changed every other day, towels changed daily.2 bottles of water provided on day of arrival - never again. Tea and coffee making facilities in room but no milk/whitener after the first day.Four swimming pools all spotlessly clean with plenty of sunloungers. Beach again very clean with loungers. Beach bar open from 10-5. 3 of the pools have bars with one of them serving snacks almost all day.
The main restaurant was very busy and sometimes you had to queue outside to wait for a table. Quality of food definitely not 5 star. Although there was normally a choice of meat, chicken or fish dish in the evenings the quality was not as you would expect for 5 star. We ate at the Italian a la carte on three occasions. Food much better quality here although it is at an extra charge - but still very reasonable - approx

***NOT SUITABLE FOR WHEELCHAIR USERS***** I was travelling with two friends, one who used a wheel chair. The hotel is lovely but not geared up for the less mobile. There are ramps in the main reception area but no lifts to the rooms. We were given a second floor room!! Apparently there are no 3 bedded rooms on the ground floor - all family rooms are on the upper floor. Think once a summer season has passed this will change. The outside areas around the gardens/pools slopes downhill and its a long way back pushing a wheelchair!
Having said the above there are no other real negatives.
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful - nothing is too much trouble.
The grounds are immaculate as are the pools - but the unheated ones were freezing! Although the weather was good, there was a chilly wind for the first few days but this died down. You will need some kind of jacket etc for the evenings at this time of the year.
The buffet restaurant had a wide selection of food, based on themed nights. I had no complaints! Tried the three specialised restaurants on site. All very good. You pay extra but not much. ie 2 x three course and 1 x two course meal cost total

This hotel is a new one. There is a nice beach and the snorkeling is good as there is a large coral reef running the full length of the beach.
The bad point with the beach is that the jetty as not been finished so getting into the sea is a little hard but it is possible.
The fish are great and plenty of them. There are a lot of jelly fish so take a long sleeve top to swim in so as not to get stung.
The hotel is clean rooms are large staff are nice the pools are nice one is heated and good to swim in. There is entertainment during the day and night.
The hotel was very quiet when we were there just a few English people mostly Russians. The hotel is stood on its own no shops or bars around, nothing I only spent
