This review is going to be different to most others.
First of all let me say I am very biased in writing this review as my Wife collapsed whilst we were sitting around waiting for lunchtime on the last day. The Manager and a member of staff arrived within minutes; doctor was on site and appeared shortly after. Very impressed and grateful for help. Ibrahim, Front Office Manager - more the hotel's operation manager, is married to a Glasgow girl. Has good command of English, was very helpful and attentive. She was helped to clinic room, and put on drip. As she recovered staff were dispatched to restaurant for soup.
Staying here is close to staying in paradise, the friendly and helpful staff made our holiday. These guys are intelligent, and welcome a chance to chat and improve their English, they prefer UK folk, because we say please and thank you, and bother to talk to them. Other nationalities just grunt. Try a bit of Arabic, they'll love it, shockran is thank you.
Big beam from omelette chef when we chatted. Turned out he's spent 2 years in a London restaurant
Thomson recommend end of stay tips, but 1 gbp tip occasionally helps. All tips are shared amongst all staff. This includes kitchen staff, etc. Put tip into envelope with name of individual to ensure only he gets it.
Aircon in lobby bit warm, gets too smoky, and fills from 6 pm for dinner opening at 7 pm.
Hotel is 10 min walk from road.
Although not in the Egyptian calendar the hotel pulled out all the stops for Christmas. Fantastic decorations around all the hotels. Ours had a large decorated tree in the foyer, and played Christmas music. There was a special Christmas eve dinner. New Year exceeded Christmas! Very large marque on beach and a programme of entertainment and a huge buffet meal. Although the evening after the meal new years eve was spoilt for me by the extremely over loud (so loud it hurt, and therefore against UK noise limits) sound. Even the hum of the system was bad. Train the entertainments team!!!!
Room towels are changed when room is cleaned.
Room too hot at night, no separate top sheet only too thick duvet. Advice is not to run ac overnight.
Can't leave balcony door open due to noise from beach till very late. Fridge in room is noisy at night, thermostat at rear bottom, to turn down so it cycles less.
Few minor room faults like leaking basin plug and non-working wall light.
Had one whole day of heavy rain, thunder and lightning. The Manager put into action his emergency plan and, despite flooding, ceilings leaking and water everywhere he and his staff coped very well indeed due to this once a year event, working well into the night. The lights stayed on, and the Restaurant and bars stayed open. One positive aspect was the Restaurant opening early at 6.30 pm and the Russians not being aware! Thus no pushing in. Well done!
Walking out to wreck coral and sea urchins close to.
Free shuttle bus book night before to sister hotel grand azure. Can use their beach bar and pier – longest in Sharm. Small slips of paper are bus ticket, entrance to hotel and for beach bar
Sunbeds get reserved early cold pool near beach is less popular and away from the racket the entertainment make. Keep towel overnight to reserve your beds before breakfast. Change during day if you need to.
A Hotel directory would be useful.
Big choice of food, but was often too salty, beef often tough, chicken too often red in centre, chips slightly undercooked.
Separate stations for omelette, made in front of you naan bread, pancakes, grill, pasta.
Large selection of bread; loafs you cut yourself or rolls. Great buffet presentations. Can be like a cattle market, with much queue jumping. Oriental night is more Egyptian style (Sharm is in Asian bit of Egypt) Lemons provided at every meal for lemon tea after we asked for some.
Italian restaurant OK, but same menu, and only 2 sweets. Staff do move around bars, restaurant.
Local pharmacy gave two medicines for mummy tummy. One lowers blood pressure, and caused my wife's collapse. See doctor if you are already on medicines as the Pharmacists are not anywhere near as qualified as UK ones.
