Visited in January 09 and had an excellent holiday from start to finish. Very spacious well equipped rooms, lovely pools great beach, plently of food choice, drinks on tap what else can you ask for. Whilst we were there there was an awful lot of english complaining about nothing! they are obviously used to gold standard or just noy happy unless they are complaining!. We had no problems whatsoever at this hotel and wouldn't hesiate to return.

Sol Y Mar Sea Star is a very welcoming, clean and friendly hotel. The staff are always smiling and anxious to serve you well. It is a smaller propery/site than most on the Red Sea hotels which suits me, as walking is a bit of a problem for me.
The Executive Chef ensures that there is a good choice of food, well cooked and presented. Even if you are a vegetarian, you would find lots to choose from. The bread, cheeses and desserts were my downfall. Back on the diet now.
The hotel is positioned at the foot of the amazing desert mountains on the coast of the Red Sea. It is so beautiful. Ideal for a relaxing holiday, or make it as busy as you like with loads of tours offered. i.e. Cairo, Petra, Jerusalem, to name a few. If you want to be in the middle of hustle and bustle and glitzy nightlife, then don't visit here, as this hotel is only surrounded by sea and desert. For me it is a sensational setting. From the beautiful private beach you can see Jordan and Saudi Arabia across the sea, and 15 mins down the road you can cross the border into Israel. There is a diving school on the beach offering lots of water activities, and different trips on their two modern boats. The snorkelling around the coral is good. The sea life is so colourful it makes you think someone must have painted on the stunning patterns and colours.
There is a very good animation team which encourage the more energetic to join in all kinds of activities during the day and also in the evening. Some evenings there are shows like the swirling dervisher, a must see, and belly dancers - good for the men, and there is always a disco if you want to dance off the calories. Alternatively you can just relax with a drink and chat, or have an early night watching one of the film channels on the t.v. in your room.
This was my 16th visit to this hotel, so that should speak for itself, and I am now looking to return in January or February.
If you fancy a massage, pedicure, jacuzzi etc, staff are ready to oblige, and there is always a doctor on site in case of illness.

There is absolutely nothing to do here, and you can't even get drunk as they will only serve half measures one at a time.

We stayed over Christmas for 2 weeks, very cheap, but very boring.

Staff were nice enough, other than one cleaner, who tried to kiss women by asking their names and then leaning in.

Pools cleaned several times a day, which was great, nice weather.

We only managed to survive, as we met a couple from Liverpool, who wanted to venture out with us.

If you want to visit a prison camp in the sun then this is the place, you can only go to the beach, or into Israel if you so desired, but bear in mind if you do go there, some countries wont let you in if you have the Israel stamp in your passport.

Food was repetative, and not hot at all.

We looked on the hotel website prior to leaving home, and it shows an Italian and a Steak House, which we were quite looking forward to. Unfortunately these are for show only, and if you want to order off their menu's you have to eat in the main dining room with the All Inclusive buffet people.

We will not be visiting Taba ever ever again.

Anyone who goes, you must be mad!!!!!

As I do my research before going ANYWHERE, I knew what to expect. It is very quiet, there is NOTHING to do outside of the hotel (apart form walk to the hotel beach) or take a minibus the the Hilton beach. With regards to the Hilton, which is not even finished yet, there is NOTHING to do there either. We were told that there were shops and places to eat, errrr no such shops, thank goodness we took our swim stuff and snorkels as that's all there is to do! There is one pub called the Nelson, but that's it.

So, back to the hotel, rooms were large, clean and all had a pool or mountain view. The hotel is about 5 years old, so it is getting a little shabby, but hey, it's only a week (I would not recommend two weeks in TABA unless you are writing a book or something)!

The food was nice, but not excellent, the staff were really sweet although I am sure they didn't really speak English!

Please bear in mind I booked this Holiday primarily to go to Petra in Jordan and as a cheapy before the main Holiday.

The negatives;-
The Hotel looks as if it has seen better Days.
The food can get repetative.
There is hardly any entertainment.
The Seastar is on its own and there is nothing to do at night really unless you travel to Taba heights or Taba border.

The positives:-

Very quiet peaceful suroundings.
A very cheap holiday for the price.
The staff are excellent.

In summary if your looking to go to Egypt on a budget then this Hotel is great value for money. Nice pools, good service. Its quiet but it was the end of June. Nice for families.Has a gymnasium, childrens playground, tennis and football pitch, private beach. Lots of trips to go on.A good place to strike out from.
