It’s the little things that mean so much and Woolacombe Bay just did not get them right. I have been coming to Gold Coast since 1988 as a student and now with my Family of four. The bus. We decided to walk down into Town with the view of getting the bus back up. But such a trip back up would have cost us £25. Yes that would have given us travel for our whole stay, but we wanted to do one trip. So I walked back up and got the car.
On arrival I was pleased to see new carpets and fresh bedding, but around the table in the lounge were only 4 chairs. I requested 2 more for our family of 6 at reception and was met with “I will see what housekeeping can do, but I am not sure they can.” Needless to say there were no chairs delivered. Easter Sunday, we bought a little roast dinner, but with only one rack in the oven and one tiny tray to bake on it was all a bit tricky.
With regards swimming and on three separate occasions there were dirty nappies in the changing cubicles, and the pool has not got any bigger and the changing area appears smaller than the facility 30 years ago when the site was a third its size.
Duvets, now do not get me wrong I like a cuddle with Mrs W. but it was essential to both fit under the duvets. When laid on the bed they just cover it so once bodies are underneath they lack any wrap around. And then there is the bar. Packed out, which is great, clearly popular, but the prices. £4.95 for a pint of Guinness (which is the fall back drink when there are no real ales) but £2.25 for Fruit Shoots and £1.65 for a tiny amount of slush.
The resulting effect was we only stayed for our youngest to have a little dance and when they wanted to go another evening I took them alone and didn’t bother having a drink.
Let’s be clear I love Woolacombe Bay, I even quite like your site, the little shop is a gem compared to many we have had to use, but I just feel you are letting yourself down on the very little things, which is a shame.
I do not know if I would visit again. Another site with a comparable price would probably win my custom, which is a shame after 30 years (on and off probably at least 12 visits.)
Come on, sort it out, we would love to come back.
