This hotel was booked for us as part of an award so it was all fully paid for including the breakfast.
The outside of the hotel is a bit of a concrete carbuncle, if the outside of the hotel was painted a different colour would look so much better...it's a very big hotel,800 rooms.
Money has been spent in the public areas which look modern and very nice indeed. Our room was on the 4th floor, it was nice but quite dated and tired in places but least it was clean.
The bathroom had been modernised but was surprised that an old shower fixture fitting had been left in when it didn't work!
We didn't think too much of the breakfast, quite a bit of the food tasted bland.I did enjoy my fruit and yoghurt, that was very tasty! The location is fantastic for London (and even better when they are not closing the Circle line down for maintenance!) the hotel is right next to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London and you are within a half hr walk of London's best Sunday markets - especially Spitalfields. Our room overlooked St Katherine's Docks and looked out to Canary Wharf.
If we had to pay for the hotel ourselves would look out for a cheap room only deal if possible and an upgraded room.
Overall, it wasn't bad but wasn't outstanding either.

I booked this hotel as part of a theatre break with my Mum. The hotel overall was very nice. The reception was very clean, moden, check in was quick and are room was ready earlyier than expected. When we raeched our room i was a little dissapointed as it was very dated and in need of a redecorating. However the view was lovely and it was clean. I did consider going to upgrade to a nicer room but as it was just for one night and it was only to rest our heads after a busy day i thought better of it.
After a good nights sleep we went down to breakfast around 8.00. We had to wait a short while for a table. It was worth the wait the breakfast was great lots to choice and plenty of it. After filling our tummys we were off. When we left the resturant about 20 minutes later the ques were really, really long. Be warned it also tells you in your room on arrival. I think we made it just in time.
We check out and was off. I would book the hotel again the location was great. Would maybe upgrade to a more recently decorated room and definatly go down to breakfast early

I recently stayed at this hotel for 1 night (theatre break) and had read some very poor reports on other sites so thought I would give my opinion. As I said it was for 1 night only on a very busy trip.
Hotel lobby is clean and bright, check in was quick. The corridors are very long and quite confusing at first but well lit and clearly signed.
The room, although basic(with fittings that have seen better days)was clean and comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities. Bathroom was again clean, electric over bath shower a bit weak, water hot.
Breakfast was plentiful but go early - the queues at 8.45 as we were coming out were long. Checkout was quick, staff polite.
There are only 4 slow lifts for a 800 bedroom hotel. They really need more. There is no staircase as such - we had to use the fire stairs.
All in all a good base for a weekend break

We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend.
Our room was spotless with modern furnishings and Molten Brown toiletries. We paid a small surcharge for a room upgrade and it was worth it.
We ate the first night in the Carvery but were not impressed with the joints which were very undercooked and in some cases raw!! We ate out the next night just over the bridge at an Italian called The Don which we would also recommend.
The staff were very polite and helpful.
We would definitely stay again.

My wife and I agree totally with the assessment and in fact would rate the hotel higher.
It is an excellent location and value. Breakfast is included in the rate. Check for special rates at Londontowne.com.

Excellent hotel in one of Londons premier hotel positions.
Rooms overlook Tower Bridge or St Catherines dock and are large and of high quality.
Below ground the hotel has its own night club, not everyones choice, but it did not create a problem during our stay and we are light sleepers.
Every where is accessible frm the hotel, with Tower Bridge, Tower of London and HMS Belfast only minutes away by foot.
Food and Drink is vey expensive in the hotel, as you would expect from a hotel of this calibure.
