I stayed here as a special surprise treat and was impressed by the attention to detail of the art deco style. The building itself started life as the terminal of Speke airport in the 1930's and was left neglected as the now John Lennon airport was built and extended nearby. The citizens of Liverpool always had a soft spot for the old building and no one was more delighted with the eventual transformation. The rooms are OK, I was extremely disappointed in not having a view of the river and the planes taking off from John Lennon airport. Staff are friendly (it comes to us scousers natural like!) dinner in the restaurant could have been better for what we paid (would probably take a cab to Liverpool or other nearby restaurants in Woolton Village) but breakfast catered for every taste and could not be faulted.
Yes would recommend staying here, especially if you are flying into Liverpool. Don't leave without a visit to Speke Hall next door, a real tudor manor house!

would agree that the hotel is lovely - we upgraded and got an executive room with bathrobes etc. have a peek around the back of the hotel where you really get the feel of what it was like as an airport. Only complaint was the restaurant was busy for breakfast on the Sunday morning.
I have also stayed at the Liverpool City Centre Marriot which I thought was of a superior quality.
