Enter the reception and you feel immediately at home and completely relaxed, there's a really lovely calm about the place.
We were welcomed by Melanie, who was happy to chat with us and gave us advice on the area, what to see, do and recommends where to eat with a couple or three real ale establishments thrown in, what a lovely personal touch and start to our stay.
Our room was modern 15 an attic room was spacious, well furnished, spotlessly clean and toasty warm, with a wall mounted tv (with no ugly wires showing a pet hate of mine)and a good strong wifi signal.
Breakfast choices are plentiful and the Full English here is delicious, cooked to order, served with a smile in a bright and sunny dining room.Carlton House is just far enough outside the centre of York to stroll in and back after your evening meal and less than 10 minutes stroll from the railway station.
Value for money 10/10, these guys openly push the fact that they don't use booking sites, so rates are trimmed to £80 a night that reflect the fact they're not payingbig commissions out. In a world where everyone lines everyone else's pockets, I've got to take my hat off to them as it seems to work for them, there were 'no rooms left at the Inn'.
They also stored our luggage after we checked out saving us £15 (£5 an item) at the left luggage office. Cant recommend HIGHLY enough and will be back in warmer months without a doubt.

Hotel tip: There's a lovely Italian 10 mins stroll from the B&B called Delrios, we had an amazing meal there.
The B&B has won many awards with the local tourist board but it hasn't gone to their head or their room rates, £85 a night bed and breakfast, highly recommended.
Both the owners and staff are really friendly and gave us some great recommends for restaurants.

Hotel tip: There website pics are large and clear, don't think you'll go far wrong, we were in room 15 at the top, lovely and warm, spacious and romantic.
We were instantly recognised and warmly welcomed by Melanie at check-in who offered to help us to the room with our numerous bags. Our 2nd floor room was warm, bright, clean, spacious and although at the front of the building was surprisingly quiet despite it being on the main road.
Arriving late Mark had booked us into Oxo's restaurant a stones throw over the road, 1 word describes the food and service 'FANTASTIC'.
The breakfast here is a MUST. The tastiest bacon & sausage ever and vine tomatoes not the horrible tinned ones you usually get when away from home coupled with friendly service with a smile from a lovely waitress.
What makes Carlton House stand out are the Xtra little touches, decent toiletries, magazines and that they put the bedside lights on for us as we arrived after dark.

Hotel tip: Stayed twice now both times in a romantic attic room with slopey ceiling. Even though they were in the attic they were very spacious.
