Horrific owner

The owner is a horrible and cynical host. She was rude and did not offer the basic needs of a guest house. The rooms were shoddy and the price was well overrated. I would not recommend that anyone stays here.

We stayed in 1 Sallyport, Berwick-on-Tweed for 3 nights at Easter weekend after looking at the website online. What a mistake. The 'Tiffany suite' with Jacuzzi bathroom did not turn out as expected. No jacuzzi tub but a toilet, sink and shower made by the company Jacuzzi. Nice shower, shame about the tepid trickle of water on two of the three mornings.
The bistro/liquid lounge bar on the ground floor ensures lots of noise until around midnight at least, doors banging - (we know there is a problem with them, they need fixed I was told), loud voices and shouting up and down Bridge street made sure we didn't get a good nights sleep despite the comfy bed. Just as well we had a TV to watch until everything quietened down around 1am. Candles and fake pine adorned the mantle piece and candelabra in the corner -a sign tells you not to light the candles!
Breakfast sounded fantastic on the website, however no Bucks fizz was offered on the Sunday as detailed. Kedgeree was dry and tasteless, cooked breakfast somewhat greasy but the kippers were lovely. Fresh nectarines with berries were obviously not in season, fruit was tasty if rather a small portion. Thick toast and marmalade delicious. Freshly squeezed orange juice a nice touch. Choosing the night before what you want to eat was disappointing, I'm never sure what I want for breakfast before I've had dinner.
We ate twice in the restaurant for dinner, food was good if a little overpriced. My glass of wine came after I had nearly finished my food on the first night, was awful on second night and I was given another glass and told that it sometimes tasted flat if it was the end of a bottle from the night before.
Staff generally very pleasant except the owner who was rude and derogatory to staff and guests alike. I paid

We satyed in this "Hotel" on a Saturday night. Basically we were in a room above a pub. The noise was so bad from the street/pub and banging of the pub door that you could hardly here the "Plasma TV" We will not be staying here again as there are other good quality options in Berwick.

Found No1 Sallyport on the Mr and Mrs Smith website, although it can also be booked direct on www.sallyport.co.uk

Pictures on the website looked gorgeous, definitely one place to head if you want a romantic getaway. Its a B&B and consists of five suites. We stayed in the Manhattan Loft - huge 5ft sleigh bed, fluffy pillows and duvet, didn't want to leave! Lovely bathroom with bathrobes and Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries. Guests also have access to a kitchen where they can help themselves to tea, coffee, mineral water, home baking and chocolate. The B&B doesn't have a drinks licence but you can bring your own and keep it in the fridge and glasses and corkscrews are provided.

Dinner is available on certain nights (we ate out) but the breakfast is fab just make your choice the night before and choose the time you want to eat. Plenty of tea, coffee, orange juice, fruit and cereals as well as what you've ordered....and the staff are busy making sure you've been well fed!

No1 Sallyport is right in Berwick upon Tweed, within the town walls. There is parking near the B&B which is free from 3pm-11am, and there is a garage that can be rented for a charge. All the local pubs and restaurants are close at hand.

Will definitely return to No1 Sallyport, its gorgeous and ideal for a cosy getaway!
