Beach nearby is ok but nothing great, best thing there was the Taverna sited up high next to the SvperMarket [their spelling].
Bear in mind we were staying all inclusive, we ate every day at the Beach Taverna, Lucky thing it was there or we would now be lying in some Crete Hospital with food poisening.

If your after relaxing beach holiday this is for you.
If you come for entertainment forget it!
The beach is spotless and the water is so clear and so calm.
The beach attendant is very friendly and polite.

Boring! a few restaurants, shops and 2 or 3 bars. Very expensive and not great quality. Still better than the hotel though.

The local resort is fairly quiet and consists of a bay with some water front restaurants. Made a nice change to visit one day but the hotel had its own bay and waterfront bar. We are more poolside than seaside.

Plenty of tavernas and a few late bars, it is not for the wild and young but there is enough in the resort to entertain.
Very laid back and chilled
It is not far to Heraklion if you want all night action
There are quite a few shops and the pool table bar as you walk up to the capsis (steep Hill) shows non stop football "excellant"

The beach at Made is supposed to be "private" to the hotel but we belive this is not so.
We think the upper tier of sunbeds and parasols below the beach restaurant and not on the sand belongs to the hotel and hence if AI you may not have to pay. Go on the sand and you pay !
Beach/bay is OK but shingle.
