Beaches

Gournes is a very quite resort, with very few tavernas, albeit very good, and unfortunately, the beaches aren’t that good either. It seems that they don’t seem to be owned by anybody so they are allowed to get a bit littered. One of the things we couldn't quite handle, was the fact that restaurant staff allowed cats to enter the premises and therefore they were near your tables whilst eating.
So for the remainder of the week, given that we had no children with us, we ventured out a bit further. We walked into Gouves (about 20 mins) and took a bus into Stalis (30 mins) and Hersonissos (20 mins). All of these resorts had very beautiful beeches and good places to eat.
The latter two were bustling with great shops to buy your souvenirs.

Unfortunately I hate to say this but I would not visit Gouves again as we found it to be very scruffy and unkempt. The beaches immediately along the resort are dirty, mainly shingle and not very savoury. We hired a car and visited many beeches along the coastline which only succeeded in highlighting how bad the beeches are in Gouves. This is a great shame as people holidaying in this resort will at sometime want to visit the beech as an alternative to their pool and we think they will find them very disappointing, however in saying this the sea is stunning, crystal clear and appears very clean and particularly good for children as there are no steep gradients on the sea bed. The resort of Gouves is o.k. but because the sea frontlooks slightly abandoned and forgotten it has blighted itself with us. The town of Gouves is better with quite a few good restaurants and a few shops, nothing for the serious shopper though. We would highly recommend anyone visiting this resort that some form of transport is a necessity.

Can't say to much about the resort as we didn,t utilise the amineties. The three Supermarkets stocked most thing needed from water , milk and bread to sun hats floats and souviners. Enjoyed the hotel's amineties so much didn't get to sample the night life beyond. Quite and friendly not much else besides Tavernas.

Very Greek, friendly and relaxing, wonderful, if you need excitement you can get taxi to Hersonisis or Malia for 15 Euro. But relaxing strolls down to the beach and Greek Tavernas is what we wanted and thoroughly enjoyed our stay it just was not long enough. Have a nice holiday and give our regards to Yarna
We found a small sandy cove of beach 200 metres from our apartments. We found this to be very clean as not many people seemed to use it. This was ideal for our family. At the most there were 6 families there. Great for keeping an eye on the children. The beach further along is very organised with sunbeds and umbrellas set in organised rows. This proved popular with many. There are a number of good tavernas on the seafront. All the staff were very friendly. Approx. 200 metres from the hotel complex, across the road from the sandy cove there is a decent sized supermarket with very friendly staff.
Resort itself was very very quiet when we visited but we were reassured that more in season there are water sports etc laid on. No entertainment was available when we stayed at Golden Bay this however is usually a BBQ and Greek Night. Beach very small although again adequate.
Definitely visit this resort again.
