Very disappointing standard rooms, are very basic, poorly equipped and very shabby/badly maintained. Advertised as self catering but almost impossible to use as such due to lack of equipment. No kitchen knife or utensils, no chopping board, a pan designed to cook for eight for a double room, chipped crockery, notched cracked handled cutlery, ice box door missing in fridge (so half the fridge froze), dirty/rusty bathroom fittings, holes in bedsheets, cursery cleaning at best, broken balcony furniture which was so uncomfortable, councils around Britain are investigating the design as a means of detering the homeless from city centers. However to counter, location, public areas and staff great (just over worked) particularly the pool and upstairs bar staff. There are also modernised rooms which other guests said we're fine. Essentially they have cut so many corners it is now almost round. Summed up by the advertised kids playground with swings and slide, but no swings just a frame and no slide. Please do not book here without your eyes wide open and check reviews on other sites for 2022 season, it would seem a once well liked place has just fallen off a cliff.
In an idle moment I used Google to work out I could put everything right in one apartment (except the cleaning) at Crete retail prices for about £200 and a couple of hours work, about £10 per week for the season or leave out the new fridge and it would cost about £2.50 including delivery. The irony is I got £250 back from my tour operator for my 2 weeks when they saw the photos. I believe they have also dropped them from next season. Buyer beware.

Hotel tip: Go for modernised rooms, do not touch a standard one.

Basic accommodation, in a good location, lots of restaurants within walking distance. Long way to the beach if you do not hire a car. Beach resort at bottom of hill (Hersonissos) truly awful, glad we were not staying there.
Staff were unhelpful, in general not interested unless you are spending a lot in the bar. Air conditioning was expensive at 7 euros a night, but don't be tempted to leave the balcony door open at night as burglaries are commonplace.
We would visit Koutouloufari again but not stay at this accommodation.

The apartments are in the centre of the village with loads of Tavernas and bars close by.
The apartments are cleaned daily and although the aircon is an option we didnt need it as we were on the bottom and it was coolish even though it was 30+ outside.
You have all you need in the apartment and we had a great time.
The bar / bistro upstairs is great for a quiet drink and the Taverna next door offers fantastic views over the bay.
Koutouloufari is a lovely little village just the right distance form the busy town down below, definetly go here again, the people are so friendly.

Basic accommodation. Relatively clean. Allocated ground floor apartment with small patio - not a problem however, little privacy as on main walkway.

A very clean apartment, the rooms are cleaned every day and the bedding changed every other day.
The two Romanians who run the bar (Alex & John) were good company and very helpful. The owners daughter (Soula) was lovely.
We wanted to stay in the Village so the distance to the sea was not a problem. We will go back.

Having been to Crete before, and seeing that the standard can be generally lower than the star ratings suggest, I was very impressed with the Astra Village.
The apartments are bright, clean and in good repair. The only real disappointment was the cooking facilities. Basically you have a plug-in 2 ring camping stove!
All the public areas of the hotel, such as the pools, bar and walkways, are thoroughly cleaned every morning. The rooms are also cleaned every day, with the linen changed twice a week.
The apartment we stayed in was on the second (top) floor and was a 1 bedroom. There was a balcony both sides, each one overlooking one of the pools. The bedroom balcony also had wonderful views over Hersonissos. Be warned however, that the beds are very hard, its like sleeping on a brick! You do have to pay extra for the safe deposit and air-con, but as we were there in a heatwave (temperatures every day of well over 30 degrees) it was really worth paying for the air-con.
There is a pool bar and a bistro at the hotel. Meals are only served until 6.00pm, but there are loads of tavernas in the resort.
I would most definitely stay here again, as this is a very good hotel for quite a budget price.

Accomodation - clean, tidy, modern, all mod cons, well stocked kitchen ( ie crockery, pots & pans etc). We had good views, though not all the rooms have.Maid service everyday. 2 pools one pool bar ( which I didnt use anyway). Be warned, the room safe costs E25 per stay, and aircon E8 per night though. Also, if you keep the room on for a late check out, it'll cost you an xtra E20. ( although, when we did check out, the very nice lady at reception only charged us E35 for the room and the safe )
The Hotel bar is relativly quiet - nice to come back to for a nightcap after you've been out.
All the staff freindlt & helpful, in particular Martin the rep.
