Stayed first week in June 2010. Impressive exterior not matched by its staff. More than half facilities not available, so frequently no food or drinks available mid to late aft unless you wait until 17:30.
Hotel being over run by Russians on all inclusive - so if you are happy to wade through empty plastic cups during your wait at the bar.
Avoid this one at all costs as there are more enjoyable places to stay. Management at the hotel are clueless on its lack of qulaity and performance.

We have just returned from the Minos Imperial and had an excellent holiday. We went as 3 couples who were celebrating being married for 20 years.
We were All Inclusive Select Class which included everything until 11.30 pm at night.
The hotel is lovely and clean and very luxurious. Our room was beautiful and we walked straight out to our pool which we shared with 9 other rooms.
The staff were all very friendly and the food was great with plenty of choice for everyone.
The entertainment was ok but as we were Select Class we had our own quiet bar which suited us.
We would definately go back to this hotel as it was pure luxury and we were definately treated as VIP's.

I will keep it brief as I have just got a reply from my 4 page complaint to sunstar leisure and am now consulting a solicitor. I did not discover all the negative comments about this company until it was too late and just cannot believe they are able to continue the way they do.
I booked what was described both on their website and verbally by the sales staff as a luxury 5* hotel with spa.
The level of service and the whole experience were absolutely appalling and never in a million years can this be described as a 5* luxury hotel. Sunstar say Greek standard is different, I beg to differ having stayed in correctly categorised 5* in Greece. To give an idea of how frugal and unhygienic they were, any part used bottled water from tables was saved, then they would fill carafes up for the so called SPECIAL restaurant downstairs. Not really surprised now that 6 days were spent with food poisoning
Major problems were:
Rudeness by most of staff
Same food every meal time and substandard for a 3* let alone 5 allowed a special meal once a week in poolside restaurant. Described as a superb 4 course fish speciality, when I tried to give my cutlery back after the first course the waiter placed it back for my remaining courses!
Hotel and accommodation in need of repair and a good clean
Broken unlit paths back to our room
Sunstar misleading over late checkouts and in reality this was a 13 night holiday costing us a 100 euros for late check out
trying to phone sunstar for assistance back in uk ( as no local rep was available for the 2 weeks ) they didn

This is simply not a five star hotel. The whole place is dirty, un-hygenic and staff are apalling.
We stayed for a week and were shocked at the so-called five star accommadation. There are wires poking out of the walls, broken furniture, no out door lighting at night, and litter never seemed to move from around the pools.
The food was awful, the same every evening - poor quality and not always hot, which would explain stomach upsets. Files in the restaurants and snack bar areas are an issue. People who rate this hotel highly cannot be used to five star hotels and regardless that it is in Crete you expect cleanliness.
On the surface the Hotel looks fine. However once you have been there a few hours the faults are all too obvious. On a positive note the facilities for children and families looked OK, but the evening entertainment was poor - don't expect a late night either.
We are certainly not ones to moan and spoil our holiday over trivial matters but were glad to get home!

We found this hotel to be very good. The location is beautiful, it is on a hill so the views are lovely out to sea. If you find it difficult to get around then maybe think carefully because of the incline although we had no problems with it at all.
The resort is not near any other resorts only a small fishing village which you can walk to- we had a jog there some mornings which was nice.
We also had a night out one evening and got a cab to Malia which is the lively town 18-30 etc. This was good and had a great evening. It wasn't that far to travel to and easily got a cab back.
The resort is very big with lots of pools to choose from, but even with all the pools and plenty of sun loungers we still had to get up very early about 7am to get a sunlounger. You will find it is really difficult to get one otherwise and we found that a lot of them wern't even being used- just had towels on them all day!!!
The staff were most helpfull and would go the extra mile for you. They really wanted to look after you especially once they got to know you. They got to know my favorite cocktail and offered it to me from then on whenever i went to the bar! They looked after us very well.
The entertainers were enthusiastic and tryed getting most people to join in with their many activities; during the day and the evening. My boyfriend went and joined in with the guys and had a daily game of football on their all weather pitch. They had aqua airobics in the pool most days, which i enjoyed and needed after all the great food that i was eating.
We chose to be all inclusive as we didn't want to worrie about money when we were out there. I was a bit worried before we went as to the quality or what would really be included but i need'nt have.
The food choice was excellent and so was the quality. They had buffet style meals with absolutly everything there to choose from. You could also choose and book an evening to go once to their 4 different restaurants which is included as well. Unfortunatly we didn't realise how quickly these book up and we missed out on 2 of them. So i would recomend that you book those when you first arrive so you dont miss out!
The rooms were cleaned every day with friendly cleaning staff. The grounds were also cleaned daily and we didnt have any problems with cleanliness.
