This was our first visit to Skala. Although we visited late in the season the roads, paths and the beach were cleaned every day. Shops and tavernas were also well maintained and spotlessly clean. Skala is not a resort for clubs which is one of the reasons for choosing it. There are three maybe four cocktail bars for that late in the evening drink or two. we used the beach a lot and while the beach is part fine shingle and sand you can buy at resort slip on shoes at the supermarkets. The sea does shelve rather quickly at 5 paces out you are up to your`e waist. Non swimmers are okay if you take it stady. we are hoping to return to Skala again next year and possibly to the same hotel.

Skala is a great place to stay. There is a very good choice of places to eat and drink. Not many shops but to to Argostoli if you want to shop. Skala is nice and quiet but other places to visit if you want night life. Great for families and couples.

The resort of Skala was fantastic apart from the beach which we were not so keen on as a bit pebbly/shingly for us! Loads of teavernas to eat in at night all serving delicious food. It was about a 5 - 10 minute walk from the hotel into the resort centre which was lovely after a big meal.
If you want a sandy beach then head to Avythos beach by the airport.

The resort was described as one of the best on the Island. It is not! Lassi is much better. This is however a beutiful island - one of the best we have been to in Greece. The port of Fiscardi is lovely and quiet and you can eat alongside the water. The boat trip to Ithaca is well worthwhile. I would go to Kafalonia again, but not to the same hotel.

Porto Scala itself was not for Lager Louts but more for families with a good choice of bars and plenty of nice restaurants. It took 50 minutes to walk into town and a taxi back costs 4euros but after midnight they were hard to get, just were none.I would recommend car hire in Scala is cheaper than the hotel reps all about the same price but different types of insurance, that is to say the undercarriage of the car and tyres not covered in one rental but covered in another etc so its best to shop around as they all have something different. You will like Kefalonia its so pretty with lots of wild flowers and birds. We had a car for a 10 days and went all over the island. The roads are awful loads of bends and potholes with a top speed limit of 60kph (thats 35 mph!).Some towns where 20kph (12miles per hour)you can walk faster, the capital Argostoli is 30mph (18mph) and would you believe we went through a hand held speed camera what a laugh.By the way there are no fixed cameras on the island (Great). But you will find very hard to get up any speed because of the road conditions the locals know the bends and drive like lunatics best to let them past as you have all day What more can we say enjoyed it so much would go back again but stay in Scala itself. You wont be disappointed coming here.

Skala itself is a very nice place,we found a fab resturant called aquarius, and on the main road into skala a resturant in the shape of a viking ship, was good, overall kefalonia is one of the most beautiful islands you will ever see.we will return but will check this website for any future holidays, before booking.

Nice resort, not yet spoilt by too much commercialisation.
Beach nice and clean, plenty to do and good choice of eating and drinking places.
