The Emerald Apartments are easily summed up by its position which is up the top of a long and really steep hill. It was a real bugbear having to climb this monstrosity 2 or 3 times a times and really influence and spoilt our holiday.

The rooms were adequate but nothing special and from what we could see there were numerous accommodations far better situated than the Emerald Apartments. We will never again book at a hotel that describes it as not suitable for people with walking difficulties. We had no problem until we got there but the we imagine 90% of the population would having walking difficulties with this hill.

As everyone has commented, no one can actually imagine the monstrosity of the two hills that lead to the Emerald! Even the locals call it "Cardiac Hill" - not for the faint hearted!

We only managed to stay for one week out of the two booked and had to ask to be moved elsewhere (partly due to having undegone recent major surgery and the hill was a real struggle). The view is fantastic though, but spoilt by the cargo ship that had run aground and shed its load of cotton seeds on Golden Beach (which incidentally I thought were rabbit droppings!).

Costas the manager is a lovely guy and goes out of his way to help you - he even arranged the taxi for us when we moved out! However, the rooms are very basic and in need of refurbishment; prior to moving out completely we had moved to the room next door because the water from the shower hit the lights above the mirror and blew up the electrics!

A courtesy bus between the hotel and the beach would be beneficial, although I understand Costas had already tried to arrange this but the idea was rejected due to some Greek law. Failing that a chair lift or even a donkey would be great!!!

Both hills up to the Emerald were far steeper than we imagined.

The room was only cleaned twice during our 7 day stay. Our room was on the 'ground floor' and was in total shade all day. Light only comes into these rooms from one source so if you are at the other end of the room you have to put the light on to see what you are doing.

It was impossible to go in the bathroom and shut the door without putting the light on. We found the accomodation to be below the standard we are used to. Some advice is to take your own coat hangers, as it was difficult trying to fit our clothes on to ones labelled '2-3 year old'. We guessed that these had been left by some previous occupant who felt sorry for the contents of the wardrobe.

A nice enough resort and we had some beautiful meals there but we would definitely find somewhere nearer sea level if we ever went again.

The Emerald apartment are at the top of a long steep hill which was pure hell to negotiate. The only advantage is if you can get a top floor room then the views are magnificent. Unfortunately we were stuck on the ground floor. The rooms and swimming pool are both poor and regrettably we cannot find much to recommend about staying here. There are a number of nicer accommodations situated on the flatter section of the resort which were much more to our liking.

The real problem with the Emerald Apartments is their position. They are at the top of a long steep hill.

Neither of us are unfit but it was a real killer especially in the heat of the day. It really influenced our holiday as we had to plan to minimise the number of journeys, Sometimes in the evenings we hired a taxi to take us back to the accommodation which cost

The Emerald Appts and Costa the receptionist/manager/barman/owner/porter, allrounder were first class, although the pool was not the best but still useable (broken diving board). We found the location although as everyone has mentioned before, cut into the hillside and up a steep hill is wonderfull with breath-taking views accross the curved bay below (Golden Beach) and Skala Potamia.
Car hire at the bottom of the hill comes highly recommended (far better than their international rental company competition along the road).

Costa gives unbeatable personal service and cannot do enough for you.

We keep a photo from here as the desktop picture on our P.C. it is that beautifull.

Stayed in the Emerald in Sept 03 for 2 weeks with Thomas Cook.

At the top of a very steep hill, so be warned, not too much trouble to us as we live in Derbyshire and are walkers so used to lots of hills! No fun after a big meal though. On the other hand, stunning views, very quiet and only a 5 min walk to the tavernas, supermarkets etc.

Basic studios, roomy enough, very clean, light and airy and a small terrace with couple of chairs and a table, enough facilities to eat breakfast/lunch on the patio and make a drink, but being Greece not much else. Lovely setting in masses of olive trees, lovely owners, couldn't do enough , great atmosphere round the bar, not noisy or boisterous.

Golden Beach stunning, the beach runs from Golden Beach right to Skala Potamia, you can walk between the two very easily by beach or road.

Fantastic tavernas/restaurants, you can eat authentic Greek and the Kostas, the owner of Emerald will recommend these if you ask him. We did not have a bad meal or service in 2 weeks.

If you want authentic quiet Greece in a lovely setting stunning safe beach, no discos just good food and drinks - then go.

We are going back next May, but to different studios, this time on the beach with sea views, what better a recommendation.

Ferry ride also stunning and a very smooth transfer at both ends.

Hired a car and saw the island, all lovely.

I am very fussy and this lived up to my expectations of basic accommodation but an excellent resort.
