Location
The hotel is located about a 10min walk down a rough and ready 'road' near all spice restraunt and taxi drivers wanted a further 50rps to go down this road which was a bit of a cheek but that goes to show you just how rough and ready the road was that the drivers didnt want to take their taxis down there!
We only had breakfast a couple of times and there appeared to be something for everyone, but mostly we ate at the beach shacks so cant really comment on the standard of the food.
The staff were helpful when we asked them questions although one thing we found to be strange was that they wanted you to sign for drinks in the fridge when they stocked up rather than for the drinks that were drunk?!? we refused to sign and after a while I think they saw our point.

When we arrived in the middle of the night we were signed in & shown to our room with no problems. When we woke up the next morning we were intially unhappy with being next to the garden pool, but we soon realised that there is much more space & there is the much needed shade available for the trees. We didnt end up spending any time by the other pool which is the one you mainly see advertising in the brochures etc.. The main hotel buildings could do with a lick of paint but it was so peaceful it more than made up for it. When you go into town & see some of the hotels on main streets with loads of people & busy roads next to them you realise just how nice the Lagoa Azul is.
Our room was basic but clean & tidy. I was not perfect by any means, could do with some decoration but it had all you need & was a nice peaceful place to come back to after the madness of the streets.
We ate breakfast there every day which consisted of fruit, bread, toast, eggs (in various states), cereal, fruit juice Tea & coffee. They even had marmite!!!
The staff in the restaurant are lovely & the security guards so funny, but I think the guys we had move around from season to season.
The road leading to the hotel is a red dirt track with pot holes all over the place but it is only a 5 minute walk to the main road & we never had any problems with taxis taking us back to the hotel. We found that the taxi drivers outside the hotel were no more expensive than any others. You can expect to pay 100 rupees into & back from Baga. Just be wary of who you choose in the towns as we ended up in a taxi with someone who was quite obviously drunk, but thankfully we arrived back in one piece.
There are loads of lovely restaurants within walking distance our favourite being Saffron Spice which is on the main road turning left & approx. 50yards on the right.

Our initial reaction on arrival was a little dissappointed that the room was a little dowdy and the bathroom drains smelt a bit ! However, the hotel soon grows on you ! Split into two halves, we had a room overlooking the rear shaded pool and had a sunny balcony. Some complained that trees overgrew theirs so it was dark in the room as well.
It appears that there is an internal dispute currently between the owners who want to seperate their business interests and in addition the situation is further complicated by the fact that many of the rooms are owned by semi permanent residents ( mainly pensioners on a 6 month escape British winter break)It was evident that the hotel was in need of some TLC.
The pool area was tired, the building needed repainting etc. However, when the work is complete, this will greatly enhance the hotel.
The staff are friendly, the breakfasts more than acceptable but we didn't eat in the hotel in the evening. The entertainment put us off... we didn't want any, and it was low budget stuff anyway.Shame the hotel is missing a lucrative income from this area.
It is possible to walk to Baga in about an hour, a taxi is 100 rupees.
I would recommend the hotel for those who want a quiet holiday away from the main resorts. Clubbers and bar hoppers would be better suited to Baga/Calangute.
We found one of the most attractive elements was the clientele the hotel attracts. We met some lovely people with like minded expectations from their holiday location.

There are two beautiful pools (one shaded and one sunnier next to the lake) The staff are fantastic, very helpful and friendly being a smaller hotel they are in a good position to pay more attention to guests. The Hotel's restaurant called "Tabla" is both reasonable and serves a wide selection of food. Choice of Indian or English breakfast (small charges for some items bacon/sausages/pancakes etc. Not for eggs though!)
Location is very peaceful hotel is at the end of a winding lane but only a 10 min stroll from Arpora village and several good restaurants, St Sebastian's Bakery at the entrance to the hotel sells doughnuts, Indian pastries and chocolate!!
As we were there at the start of the season there was no entertainment - which suited us as we went out most nights. Taxi's are readily available into Baga 80prs or Calangute 100rps.

Taxi's are always available outside, and very cheap. Air con is included, very small charge for safety deposit box. Breakfasts are basic but good. Snacks are tasty and cheap, I did not eat there for main meal so I cannot comment.
The staff are extremely polite and efficient. Entertainment is basic, but a good alround hotel, that I would use again.

Rooms are spacious and if you can upgrade to a one bed suite its worth the money. Mini bar reasonably priced as is the tailor and jeweller on site.
Breakfast is eggs, cereal, fruit, toast etc you have to pay for pancakes, bacon, sausage and beans. Luchtime snack menu offered good value for money for a hotel and bar although more expensive than big resorts didn't rip you off.
Its a shame I can't move this hotel to Candolim as I would stay in it every year, best hotel I have stayed in (better than Highland Beach, Phenix Park )
Many repeat visitors to this hotel because of its friendliness and away from it all feel. Hourly free shuttle bus to Baga 9.00am until 6.00pm. 5 out of seven nights some sort or entertainment is on don't miss Friday Night its Adam (the waiter) fire eating show!!
All Spice restaurant in Arpora is the best we visited in 3 years except the Mermaid in Candolim.

The hotel was very clean - rooms were cleaned everyday - towels changed every day - sheets changed every other day.
The pools were cleaned everyday and the pool area was spotless. Towels were provided for use by the pool.
The hotel is in a quiet area so if you wanted to get about you relied on taxis that were quite expensive compared to other resorts we have been to.
The staff were very helpful and friendly - nothing too much trouble.
Don't know much about the entertainment as we didn't eat in the restaurant at night but did have room service a couple of times which was excellent.
