Situated up a small side road at the centre of busy Calangute main shopping street. Easy access to shops and short walk to beach. Restaurants close by. Taxis available outside reception. Small shops for basic supplies outside hotel which was very friendly.

Rooms were of a good size but the usual 2 star standard.

The hotel only lacked entertainment but this was not a problem as everything was so close to hand.

We would return to this hotel for where it was situated and the hotel staff.

Great pool which was good size and good depths for everyone 3ft - 6ft 6"

For people who go out to eat each night and use the poolside or beach during the day for its price it was good.

The beds changed every other day and towels daily couldn

Everything about this hotel was clean and friendly. Rooms were basic - but you only sleep in them - but cleaned every day and sheets and towels changed every other day.

Terrific staff. Great location, close to all amenities. But when I was taken ill with appendicitis and we had to stay a further week they excelled themselves. We were moved to a ground floor room to avoid stairs, they provided cushions on outside chairs to raise them for easier sitting, buckets of water for my feet to keep cool.
The chef prepared freshly bought fish every day to ensure I ate healthily. Food and drinks were bought to our room whenever needed.

I cannot give this hotel enough praise...now that I have found this web site!

The hotel was in a central position and close to bars and restaurants.

The first room we were given was awful, minimum furniture, dingy, not very clean. We paid for extra for an air conditioned room which was fine and nicely furnished.
We found out afterwards that lots of people had complained about their rooms and had been moved hence why we were given a poor room to start with as all the other rooms had been taken (ie, if you complain they will move you.

The manager did do his best to accommodate people and the staff were friendly and helpful. Especially Rocky the bar man who could not help you enough.

We only had breakfast here but this was basically very dry toast but lots of other places did a good breakfast that was really cheap.

Rooms were cleaned daily but only the minimum done, ie clean floor, change towels. The walls were dirty in the room and would benefit from a clean or a lick of paint. The beds resembled two wooden doors pushed together and were very uncomfortable (good for a bad back though).

Entertainment was ok but lots of things going on in other places so did not spend much time here.

Looking round there are much nicer hotels than this but the location was pretty good and no shortage of willing taxi drivers.

We booked Xmas and New Year 2004/05 just 3 weeks in advance so choice was limited. Having been to Goa before we knew what to expect. The Braganza is very much a 2 star hotel but as it is just a 2 minute walk to the main road of Calangute the location was ideal for us. We previously stayed at the Nizmar which, although a better hotel, was a bit of a trek to anywhere.

The room was basic but clean with limited wardrobe space but it did have a separate lounge area and a fridge. We did have one cockroach which came from the sink but we bought some bleach and kept pouring it down the plughole which sorted it out. We had to request a couple of plastic chairs so we could sit on the balcony and these were provided with no problem. Yes, it's a little noisy in the mornings but you can always catch up on lost sleep at the beach. The hotel is just a 10 minute walk to the beach steps.

We don't tend to take breakfast at the hotels when we are on holiday as we don't get up in time. We did feel that the bar area lacked atmosphere and tended to eat and drink outside the hotel. Because we arrived on Christmas Eve, we did attend the 'gala' dinners on both Christmas night and New Year's Eve. The food would have been good if they had stuck to Indian food but they tried to do roast turkey which they hacked to pieces with a knife that wasn't sharp enough and also served suckling pig which didn't look at all appetising. The rice and vindaloo was good.

No problems with the safe deposit box but we provided our own combination lock which we also use for our suitcases. I would also recommend Mac the tailor who has a shop at this hotel. They are no more expensive that the tailors that churn out clothing within 24 hours but Mac takes more time and more fittings and you end up with a superior product.

All in all a good holiday, we would stay here again because of the location and the spaciousness of the accommodation.
