Rather than rough it in Hampi, we took the comfortable option and stayed in Hospet for 2 nights at the Hotel Malligi.
Not a sanctuary, but a decent place as a base in a quite bleak town called Hospet. Big room with a clean bathroom and hot running water, TV, fridge and two twin beds wedged together as a double
