my husband and i stayed in the lord bagenal for 2 nights. on arrival we were greeted by extremly helpful staff who couldn't do enough for us. we booked into the waterfront restaurant for the 1st night after reading john and sally mckenna's '' top 100 restaurants in ireland''. what they said about the food lived up to expectations, it was excellent. so good infact that we booked in for the second night again, bearing in mind that there is plenty of restaurant and bar food options in this beautiful little village. the lord bagenal has all the charisma that soo many hotels lack at present.we had our 1st drink on probably the most romantic(and largest) decked area by the river(smokers paradise).the feel - good factor bleeds through the staff and ambience of this hotel like a perfectly timed orchestra. it is perfect for quite getaways with your partner, summer walks along the river or just a bit of everything. the only thing it lacked for me was the gym... but the are soo many walks and bars along the way why ruin it thinking of things you should be doing. iam still thinking of the dish i had at the waterfront, rump of veal, potato and smoked gubeen gratin, creamed peas and bacon, bernaise sauce. sounds simple, i awake thinking of this dish for breakfeast, lunch, dinner.....

Walker's paradise and very peaceful. Good for young families, singles of all ages, over 50's etc. Not recommended for families with teen-agers 'seeking action' - otherwise fine!
