Exquisite, luxury, golf resort hotel and spa, just a few miles across the border from County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. Sited in open country in Co Cavan in the Republic, it gives the impression of being in the middle of nowhere. But it would be a good base for touring the Fermanagh and Cavan lakelands... the whole area was a lake yesterday, driving back in a torrent.
I was there for a sporting dinner, of which they seem to attract a lot, and weddings, of course. The big attraction, however, is the golf... those who know these things tell me it is a challenging course. Superb food and helpful, friendly staff, a well used spa and the rooms were incredibly comfortable, warm and well-appointed. Equipped for the business user though I cannot imagine what business you'd conduct out there in the wilds. An oasis, nonetheless. The next time someone tells you to get lost, this is the place to lose yourself.
