We stayed at the Mespil for 3 nights, We had two rooms both had a double bed and a single bed.
The rooms were very clean and well equipped.Breakfast was very nice,Buffet style you could have full Irish or continental lots of choice.A good location right on the canal and a good 15 minute walk into town.
The staff were always helpful and pleasant.
All in all a great place to stay.

Mespil is an older hotel, very clean, with large rooms. Our room had a single and double bed. We faced the front of the hotel, so the traffic was a bit noisy, but okay for sleeping.
We ate breakfast at the hotel one morning. It was a buffet and very good, although expensive (our Canadian dollar is crap).
There were lots of authentic Irish pubs in the neighbourhood. To walk to central Dublin was a bit of a hike--about 15 minutes to St Stephens Green and then another 10 minutes through the park.
Each morning we hopped on the double decker tour bus that stopped at the hotel and got a ride to O'Connell St (one morning we actually paid and took the tour), and then we would either walk or take a taxi back. It was about a 10 minute walk to the closest Dart station.
Hotel staff were really helpful when we wanted to go sightseeing, or find restaurants etc. I would definitely stay here again, if my budget precluded staying at a more expensive hotel in central Dublin.
