We stayed at the Hotel Ca' Alvise for a few days over Christmas.
The hotel has been recently renovated and has a very Venetian look to it, which I really liked. Our room also had a brand new spa bath which was a really nice surprise!
The breakfast was good and the service was unobtrusive. The front desk staff all spoke English (luckily for us, we're hopeless with languages!). They were friendly and recommended a nice local restaurant for us, as well as marking out the major sights on a map which they handed to us on check in.
The location was great - only a five minute walk from the Rialto Bridge (handy for the water bus from the airport) and a 10 minute walk to Saint Mark's Square, which suited us fine as it meant we were far enough away not to have hordes of tourists walking past the hotel at night. It's on a quiet side street that not a lot of people wander down, so again there were no issues with noise from people passing by.
It can be quite pricey in the high season but we took advantage of Christmas being a quieter time and got the room VERY cheaply on Agoda.
I would definitely recommend.
