I thought it was time I reviewed Travellers Beach Hotel, as this was my seventh visit. I have stayed at several hotels on the North coast with higher star ratings, but keep going back to Travellers. The service is faultless, and the personal touch keeps on drawing me back.
I usually book the hotel in Nairobi through Travelcare, as they were cheaper than booking with the hotel direct. However, this year, I was offered a better deal by the General Manager Fred Kiuru. Fridges and Mosquito nets are available in the rooms, but you have to request them.
I stayed at Travellers Beach for four nights in November. It was too short, as always. I was given a welcome drink on arrival, some lovely Passion juice. Check in took less than ten minutes. This is what I call service. I paid for a safe at the cashiers, and said a quick Hello to Fred Kiuru, the General Manager, before I headed to my room.
As I was led to my room, I bumped into several cleaning staff, who remembered me from previous visits. As I walked into my room there was a basket of fruit, and lovely bowl of flowers, which is standard for returning guests. This was lovely.
I booked Bed and Breakfast, as there are so many restaurants to sample in Mombasa, but usually have booked Half Board at the hotel. I headed down to the hotels Indian restaurant after I unpacked, as the food is excellent. I had my lunch delivered to my room, but you need to go the restaurant to order first. When you order room service, there is always a 200 shillings cover charge. I ate at the restaurant several times during my stay at the hotel.
Breakfast consists of fresh fruit juices, Orange and Passion, Danish Pastries, Pancakes made to order, Cereal, Porridge, Sausages, Eggs, Bacon, and Fresh Fruit. The waiters at Breakfast were falling over themselves to serve me, as soon as I drank a glass of juice, another was brought to my table.
There are several restaurants, the Sher-e Punjab Indian restaurant, La Pergola Pizza and Pasta Bar, which is situated by the Lobby. The Bahari Pool and Snack Bar. The Suli Suli Beach bar, was not there when I was last at Travellers in 2006. It is situated by the Beach and has great views. A great spot to meet friends, or just sit and chill and watch the action on the beach, read or listen to your music. Sadly one of my friends got sunstroke after meeting me at the Suli Suli beach bar, so make sure you sit in the shade.
The hotel has a Souvenir shop and a Jewellers. It has a Gym, and you can book a massage.
The rooms have a double bed, single bed, sofa, chair, desk, plasma TV, and two lamps. You have a bathroom with a bath, and shower, an adjoining toilet, wardrobe, several sets of drawers, and a hairdryer. There is loads of space to store your clothes. The rooms had been refurbished since my last visit, and looked good.
There is a business centre where you can check your emails, and the speed was very good.
The service at this hotel is excellent, a big thanks to Juma and Frank on reception, and to Fred Kiuru, the General Manager, who always makes things perfect for me. The staff are professional, polite, efficient, friendly, and serve you with a smile.
A close friend had suggested I try another hotel next time, and my response was that I like Travellers Beach so much, I have no interest in going elsewhere. My stays at Travellers Beach are therapeutic. The staff, and environment enable me to unwind from the stresses of life in London.
