Arrived at 3am, staff friendly and courteous - as they were throughout. Room on 2nd floor on the side directly facing the qawra palace, VERY noisy road out the window - a steep hill and you know how much the Maltese like to rev their cars! Room also above the dining room and kitchen - noisy first thing. Room very clean but aircon unit in room too loud to sleep with it on.
Day 4 of holiday we had a note attached to our key in reception - would we like to go to Gozo for 3 days as an extra value offer, free of charge, initially suspicious it had something to do with timeshare as we had been stopped by touts minimum of 5/6 times every day, but we went. Turns out Suncrest had a conference and wanted some rooms freed up - Calypso hotel on Gozo is one of the best hotels Ive ever stayed in on a package deal. Would go back there without hesitation.
Anyway on our return to Suncrest we got a different room - at the back of the hotel - much quieter outside, aircon whisper quiet and could actually get room cold! Room was shabby though - cracked floor tiles - so cracked you could cut your feet - not good if you have kids I should think. Bathroom was smaller and grottier too - light wasn't bright enough to shave accurately by. But we kept the room just so we could get uninterrupted sleep. Public areas of hotel are immaculate, good disabled access to all areas. Lifts break down a lot. All staff were brilliant, waiters, bar staff, cleaners and reception - very friendly. Seemed to be loads of entrtainment on but not the sort of thing that we go for and we were out of the hotel most of the time anyway.
Breakfast was OK, usual feeding frenzy but at least you have to wait to be seated so you dont lose your table to someone else while you get your food (this happened in Bulgaria a lot). Plenty of vegetarian options too (phew).
If we go back to Malta - which although isnt high on our list I probably would consider it - the Suncrest will definitely be somewhere I seriously think about.

On arrival the first thing I noticed were the droopy and dirty old flags flying outside.
Entering the lobby you got the feeling of faded 1980's glamour - gold lamps and railings, red leather sofas - all looked as though they could use a good cleaning! The reception staff were friendly and seemed to be trying hard.
Of the six elevators only four seemed to be working, at one point during my stay only one was working. They seemed out of date. The room was clean with a sea view, although the carpets were old and worn and needed replacing.
The bedroom did not have tea and coffee making facilities. The pool was very crowded during the daytime because it was also available to members of the public for a fee. I was disappointed with the other sports facilities - no tennis court as advertised and these facitities were located at another hotel 150m down the road.
The breakfast was served from a buffet, not cooked to order and of an average standard.
I would give this hotel 3 star not the 4 star advertised.

First time we've been to this hotel, after reading previous reports we were unsure what to expect but we were very pleased with the holiday.
The rooms were very clean, (food) always found something were liked, the staff were very pleasant & helpful, we tended to find our own entertainment in Buggiba, namely Fat Harry's & just around the corner from the hotel at The Red Lion.
Only downfall of the holiday was as in previous reports the hotel lifts were constantly out of order 1 day 4 out of the main 6 were out of order though some were quickly fixed.
Definitely going back soon

Terrible. Worse AI holiday ever.
Felt guilty every time we had anything to drink. We were treat as though we were after something for nothing. Meals were boring. Ok if you loved meat, lots of beef on the menu. Salads were on every day but there wasn't really any choice other than cheese.
We would never go back to that hotel as it was not as it was advertised. I've never known a gym where the treadmill was not all inclusive. Indoor pool was smelly and very hot. Picture in book was nothing like the real thing. Most of the machines in the gym were not working and the lady there was not very helpful. This was due to us not paying for the use!
Drinks were terrible. Small of everything because you were all inclusive. Don't go to this hotel AI.

On arrival at this hotel, the rooms as booked and paid for were unavailable. The hotel had obviously overbooked (over the next few days we spoke to at least four other people who had the same experience as us). We spent the first hour of our holiday in the foyer trying to sort out accommodation, and were given a horrible basement room in which the frosted glass window was level with the pavement outside. We were forced to take it as our courier, Simone, who appeared several hours later, refused our request to be moved to another hotel. However, she did agree that the hotel should not be listed as four star. After a very uncomfortable night we were moved to a 'superior seaview room with balcony'. True, it did have a sea view but it was also on the first floor and the patio window was level with the roof of the plant room of the hotel. This plant was running 24 hours a day, and sounded like Concorde taking off. It was impossible to have the window open at all, and forget sleep; and to add insult to injury my friend, who was in the next room, was getting dressed in her room when a man appeared at the window; apparently he was sweeping up the roof! After two nights of noise, we were moved to another room with balcony on the side of the hotel, and there we stayed for the rest of the holiday. Three room moves in as many days did not impress us at all. The hotel was in a state of general disrepair, and the wall outside our final room had water running down it, to the extent that the carpet in the corridor was soaked. The staff, on the whole, were a miserable bunch, with the notable exception of one receptionist who did all she could to help us. The main restaurant was hot and stuffy, and a bit of a free-for-all at mealtimes. We were given some free wine vouchers as compensation, but having wasted three days of our 10 day holiday moving around from room to room, not to mention the time spent in arguing with staff, we were not impressed with the Sol Suncrest. We booked it because we always thought any Sol hotel would be of a good standard, but this one let them down badly.
