The location of the Hotel President is just off (50m) the main road in St Julians, a very short walk from Spinola Bay. Having travelled around the whole island, I wouldn't want to be located anyway else!

Anyone in to bars or clubs just has to stay here (St. Julians/Spinola Bay), as the nightlife is literally on the doorstep (starts at the main road) - but the hotel is far enough away from the noise to ensure a good nights sleep.

Also, loads of restaurants, of all types. Some cheap, some classier - catering for all.

Buses - on the doorstep, going all 'round the island at 50c (= 75p) or 20c to nearer places like Valetta.

The hotel itself - The boss was really friendly and couldn't have looked after us better ("just doing my job") he claimed when we complemented him. The staff, to a person, were more than helpful, without being too close and clingy.

The hotel is very clean and tidy and everything worked as it should - lights, lift, TV, heating (air con), hot water, safe (small charge) etc. The room had it's own fridge - this must be a huge benefit in the summer. Shampoo and shower gel were provided daily as were clean towels. Our room had a balcony with 2 chairs and a table.
The welcoming free wine La Valetta was more than passable (remember to bring your own corkscrew!)
Only gripe was the lack of an English channel on the box.

There was the choice of TWO pools. The rooftop one was too cold to use (but pool and sunbed area was very clean), and there is a spectacular view up there and it must be lovely in the summer. The heated indoor one was a pleasure to use.

The food - breakfast was continental buffet style: Two cereals (I took the passable muesli), tea and/or coffee, toast (butter and marmalde), cheese and ham.

Dinner was of a much higher class - large portions. Starter of (tuna) salad, soup, pasta or rice and the main meal was something like chicken breast, beef stew, plaice, cod, local fish (forgotton the name) with veg and potaoes (chips were real potato and not yukky french fries). Then a choice of deserts (if you have room left!) - profiteroles, lemon mouse cake, ice cream etc. They were all excellent.

Finally, prices at the bar were roughly in line with the pubs outside.

So, overall this hotel more than gets my approval - when you consider what they are charging for a week on a well-known auction site, it truly is a mind-blowingly good deal. Enough said!
