Brilliant Hotel reccommend staying in Casitas rooms they where out of this world. Would say more top 4 star more than 5.
Restaurants brilliant.
Beach a bit disappointing to many rocks, but enough swimming pools so didn't really matter.
Didn't see much entertainment as enjoyed bar crawling instead, the entertainment that we did see was very poor. Typical resort entertainment.

The hotel was immaculate, there was always a member of staff cleaning and preening the hotel no matter what the time of day.
The food was excellent, with plenty of choice. There is no buffet style restaraunt in this hotel it's all al a carte. I would definately recommend visiting "Kampai" for lunch even though your room info doesn't advertise that it's open! It's free for the candlelight dinner on the beach if you have an anniversary of some kind 1 month before or after you travel date. I think they require some sort of proof (doesn't include birthdays)!!
The staff can't do enough for you, they are extremely freindly. Ricardo is great always smiling-he's the guy that will pick you up on golf style buggies.
We stayed in a casita which is definately the quiet end of the hotel. You practically have a swimming pool to yourself. The service at this resort is fantastic. You never have to leave your sun lounger! Drinks are served all day long to your bed, there is even a guy who comes round three times a day-the 1st visit is with fruit, the 2nd with a sandwich and the 3rd with ice-cream. In their trolley they even have sun lotion and books at your disposal.
Tips are included when you book your hotel but it's a good idea to take plenty of single dollar bills. The staff really appreciate the tips and they never check how much you give them it just goes straight in their pocket.

Hi there,
We arrived at the El Dorado on New Years Eve and couldn't wait to spend New Year in Mexico. We had an excellent night there was a party at the main pool drinks brought to you all night.
The food was absoloutly amazing at this hotel the best I have had in an all inclusive. We loved Kampi at lunch this is not stated in the file in the room but does do lunch, also jo jos was great. Our favorite for evening meal was the itallian the lobster lasagne is delicious.
The entertainment at night was nothing brilliant a bit quiet, but we made some brilliant friends and made the most of it, try electric lemonade at guacamyas lemonade slush with citrus absolute vodka mmmmmmmm!!!! All alcohol is branded!
Definitely do the Cancun bar crawl you really will be crawling! We booked this in the hotel lobby we are 25-28 you will experience the best night club ever coco bongos

If you are going to this hotel you will have a fabulous holiday.
We have just come back from celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary there & had the holiday of a lifetime. We renewed our vows on the day of our anniversary so if you are going for a wedding/honeymoon you have chosen well as it is super-romantic!!
We stayed in a Casita Suite (well worth the extra

Went to the El Dorado Royale for our honeymoon. Overall we had a great time, hotel spotless, room was fantastic and the upkeep of the hotel was great. I have detailed the key areas of our honeymoon below:-
Flights:-
First Choice Premium - Do it!! Fantastic, loads of legroom, great food, great inflight service - no faults at all, why people travel with other charter airlines when they can experience something like this baffles me !
Room:-
Upgraded to a oceanfront swimup jacuzzi suite. Ok it wasnt quite oceanfront but that didnt matter. Lovely 4 poster bed with drapes, huge double jacuzzi (use the bubblebath sparingly otherwise you recreate an Ibiza style foam party and lose all the romance!!). Step out onto your balcony past the hammock (funny) down two steps and you are in a lazy river which, with a small swim you are at the bar!
Grounds:-
Spotless, spreadout and the hotel is huge!!! Little bits being done here and there but its good to see they are keeping it uptogether, im sure there are still things need sprucing up since Wilma but we didnt notice it.
Entertainment:-
Not our cup of tea - a few bars, one being the main bar with various games or shows and staying open until 2am. To be honest, once you have had your meal you were too knackered, it was nice to go back to the room, have a couple of drinks and go to bed. The aircon gives you welcome relief! Im saying the entertainment was bad just very low key.
Food & Resturants.
The hotel provides itself on gourmet dining. This is an "A La Carte" hotel and all restaurants have some kind of speciality going on, be it oriental, mexican, Italian etc.....
One of my gripes is that you have to reserve your requested time in each restaurant as early as possible otherwise you may not get your choice of restaurant at the time you want. Thing is you can end up changing your mind as the week goes on and I didnt like being told where to eat and when. The hotel could do with a "buffet" style free seating restaurant, which, whilst I appreciate detracts from the A La Carte concept but sometimes its hard work to actually get into the restaurant and you end up not bothering and doing room service which consisted of burgers etc!
In general the food was OK but I did find some of the food, espcially in the Mexican Restaurant a bit bland - I thought Mexican food was supposed to be a bit spicey!!??
Breakfasts great though and you MUST try the Eggs Benedict in La Isla Restaurant!!
There was also a fast food section open during the daytime if you had to have that Burger Fix but it always got busy around 1pm.
STAFF:-
First Impressions was WOW! - They couldnt do enough for you - for days 1 & 2 - by day 3, things went a bit downhill, we had to ask 4 times for our room to be cleaned properly due to dead ants on the floor. we waited 2 hours on our last day for room service breakfast and when it did come through it was wrong. Every block of the hotel has its own personal concierge who are there to help. One day he would be fantastic, other days he seemed to be under pressure. Sometimes you felt that everything you asked him to do came at a price, either he would end up trying to get you on an excursion or attend their timeshare presentation as they have a presence here. Maybe our expectations were too high but given the 5 star standard of the hotel, we expected a bit more consistancy in the standards of staff service. Saying that though, on reflection it did not spoil our honeymoon.
HANDY ADVICE.
Dont let the Concierge dictate to where to eat and when - If you want to eat in a particular restaurant at a particular time, demand it - a quick phonecall to the retaurant manager normally gets you in.
Always keep a few $1 bills for tipping - you end up having to tip to ride the buggy drivers that take you around, the waterspots guys expect a tip. the concierge expects a tip, the room service staff expect a tip........you get the idea!!
Also remember there isnt much around the hotel and you can get cabin fever. Try and get out on a couple of trips and if you have to get a Taxi to Cancun (Approx

This is a fantastic hotel - we loved it here and will be going back as soon as we can.(Adults only hotel)
There was a lot of American's there (no problem with that) they were nice people and most of them only stayed for one week - there was quite a few weddings within the two weeks we were there..( I would choose this place if I was getting married again)
Rooms - We had a Jacuzzi room Room (No. 816) and it was lovely- we looked over one of the main swimming pools and La Isla resturant. The room was kept very clean - Air con worked well didnt need to have it on so much as I normally do a there is one of tho's fans over the bed whiched worked very well.
Pool area's - There was two main pools one that was very quite and one that had a few activities going on through the day - but both were lovely with swim up bars. There were other pools which you could go in all had swim up bars - these were near the Casita - again all lovely.
Sea - when we first saw the sea with tho's very large sand bags in them i thought how ugly they look and coulldnt something be done to make them look more attrative - but I had to say once the sun was out and you were sitting on the beautiful beach with crysal clear waters and a lovely cool brezze, you just didnt take any notice of them. apparentlky these have been put there since the Hurrican and will be taken away a some point.
Bar's - The pool bars were all very good and we always got what we asked for ( Congac and diet coke..Ummm lovely) or a cocktail sometimes which again was lovely.
Main bar ( near Jo Jo's)- Again no complaints. all the stuff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble.
Martini Bar (in reception) The guy behind the bar there was a bit miserable - but once we said about it he was ok - Please try a Chocolate Martini lovely jubley - I also had a brandy Alexander - that was very good too..Oh! and a B52 - yummy - it is cold in there tho - which i liked but few people found it too cold?
There was s health bar which open during the day(Near the Casitas) for smoothies and health drinks - you could get lunch there too.
Resturants - You have to book these by the concerige ( sits by your hotel block in a little open hut each day
We had no trouble booking any of the resturants but apparently sometimes there is.My only gribe here was that we were not told about the theme nights.
Jo Jo's (Caribean) - We had lunch there and dinner and we enjoyed the food very much (Try the coconut ice cream) the service very good.
Italian - we only went to this resturant once ( supossed to go on the last night but couldnt make it) but I would of booked this more if I had know how god the food was in there.
Cocotel - Again the food was lovely - dont think it is open for lunch - but you can have breakfast in there
Ia Isla - This seems to be the main resturant
Breakfast This had all fresh fruit, cheeses ,meats yohurts etc -lots of different breads to toast - You got a choice of cooked breakfast that was waiter service - lovely
Lunch - very Nice
Dinner - Very Nice
Fondue - we only booked this resturant once and was glad we did as it was a differnet experience for us - there are about 8 different cheese fondues to have with varied meat and fish and to follow the choice was white or dark chocolate fondue or a fruit compote
Japanese - This was lovely too we went there twice and both times we had a lovely meal.
Mexican - this was out least favorite - The food was ok but the waiter was very miserable.maybe just an off day!
As a whole the resort was lovely and all the reviews that o read where they said the food was not varied and other negative reports well!! all i can say is that - they must of had a bad experience or they are extremly fussy and beleive me tho i am fussy too and i though it was wonderful.
Tipping - no need to tip -(but it always helps)anyway, we did as we felt the service was that good the tip was well deserved.

We were placed in the El Dorado after our hotel (Grand Flamenco) was damaged in the hurricane. However, I think FC thought we were a couple and not mother and son (He is nearly 17) so although I have reviewed this hotel, please bear in mind we only stayed for 2 nights because they had to move us again due to my son's age. (The hotel is for 18yrs and over).
The hotel is a honeymooners/couples hotel and is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are immaculate and very pretty.
The food, except breakfast is all served at pre-bookable restaurants and was superb. There were plenty of bars and each of the Casita Suites areas had it's own pool and swim up bar, so if you wanted to peace and quiet you could easily find it. In the evening, you could book candlelit dinners on the beach which looked gorgeous. The canopies were decorated with fairy lights and it was magical with the sound of the waves.
The Casita suites which were the superior rooms were lovely albeit a little tired looking. The room was big with a jacuzzi in it and the bathroom had an outdoor shower. From the terrace you stepped into your own part of the lazy river and swam round to the private pool and swim up bar. There is a mini bar which is included and 24 our room service. The only downside to the suites is that they are a long way from the main lobby but there were buggies running around which you could hop on to.
Now the down side..... The hotel is built alongside the mangroves and at certain times of the day, there was a terrible stench of sulphur which woke me up one morning! It only lasts for about 20 mins or so, but it is quite bad. If you have a weak stomach - it isn't the place for you!
The main pool was a fair size with lots of loungers available. The beach had cabanas on it (Large four poster style beds) which were amazing! The beach was ok, but not the best I've seen. It was quite rocky and had 'beached whales' built in to stop the erosion which spoilt the look slightly. We moved to the Paraiso Maya and the beach there was superb.
The entertainment during the day was low key but they did have bikes to rent and ping pong tables, but there was little music or games in the pool.
The staff were very nice and did their best to accommodate requests.
The hotel is on the main road from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen and was well placed for all the trips etc

We stayed at the El Dorado hotel for our honeymoon in July 2005. The first six day were out of this world then hurricane Emily arrived. We both felt that the situation was handled very badly by Airtours, the hotel staff did as much as they could to make things comfortable for us (although sleeping on the floor at Cancun convention centre, with 5000+ people, no electricity, no air con and very little food is not exactly comfortable.)
Once we got back to the hotel it had been quiet badly damaged, first of all we were told we would be taken to a different hotel for our last eight days but this never happened, they left us for 8 days with no electricity, no air con, and half of the facilities we paid for.
We had a garden room in block six which was lovely, we did see the casitas as we made friends with somebody staying in one, 1st impressions of the casitas was great they look very impressive from the outside but once inside i did not feel that they warranted the extra money (about
