The hotel was brilliantly clean, on a good clean peaceful beach, staff very friendly who could not do enough for you and nothing was to much trouble.
Entertainment staff worked exceedingly hard and produced some amazing shows each night - very talented.
The hotel was one of the best I have stayed in - I have travelled quite a bit!
Restaurants varied and interesting, producing good quality food which was plentiful, tasty and varied.
I would recommend this hotel most strongly.

We sytayed at the Iberostar Quetzal/Tucan All inclusive which are two virtually identical hotels sharing central facilities .Seven restuarants , two are main evening ones ,two double up in the evenings as a la carte and 3 purely a la carte. The hotel landscaping is superb - very Jurassic Park with waterfalls and jungle. The wildlife is great - 22 Howler monkeys, Peacocks, Sirecas ( spelling a guess) hampsters with long legs and beautiful coats ,Iguanas, Swans,Parrots Flamingos etc.
The food is very good and varied ( check on how hot sauces are )Accomodation is good , set into 3 story blocks. One drawback is the shortage of sun beds which are not supposed to be reserved but if you don't reserve one by 6.30 you won't get one.
The evening shows are better than the usual hotel entertainment and the staff are helpful and friendly. The rooms have well stocked mini bars and the hotel bars including the swim up offer a wide variety of drinks and cocktails. We will return to this hotel.

We previously stayed in an Iberostar hotel in Dominican republic and decided to try another in Mexico, the layout of the Iberostar Quetzal was almost exactly the same as the other hotel we stayed in which was nice, but the food in the buffet restaurant let the rest of the hotel down. Very seldom was the food really warm and when the trays were nearly empty instead of taking them away they just topped them up with more of the same.Other than that the staff were very nice, but we wouldn,t go back to Quetzal again.

This hotel was the best one we have stayed in. The year before we visited an Iberostar in Dominican Republic so we considered an Iberostar in another country. This has to be the best holiday ever. The food was delicious, couldn't fault it. We would definitely reccommend going into the Japanese as it's amazing watching the staff cook it right infront of you and they have many tricks :). It's great.
We never had a problem getting a bed by the beach but we rarely had one by the pool as we'd need to be up earlier to put towels down.
The hotel was immacuately clean. The staff were so friendly everywhere and just wanted you to be happy and enjoy the holiday.
There are sand banks in the sea which are slippery but very fun to slide down for everyone. It's a great laugh.
The entertainment team are just amazing. It's unreal how nice they are and friendly and if you don't want to do something, they don't nag you like you get in some places, they're very chilled about it.
There is a camera man around the hotel who takes lovely pictures of you + others + with the animal he has daily. They're so cute.
There is a nightclub in the hotel which is probably the coolest place to sit on an evening as it is very warm. Its a large nightclub with plenty of seats so you wouldn't feel asthough you were in a confined space.
We really can't say how amazing this hotel was and our advice to you is to go and have a awesome time like us.
When we first heard it shares a pool and other facilities with the Iberostar Tucan we were a bit worrried about it. However, once we got there you find it isn't cramped, it is a well spaced out hotel and you never feel asthough there are too many people. The sister hotel is also gorgeous and nearly the same as the Quetzal eventhough the Quetzal has the most gorgeous waterfall by the main buffet restaurant.
From the hotel you can take a 5/10 minute walk to a few shops where there is also access to a phone if you are wanting to call anyone. Its quite complicated to work but you should figure it out.

We have just arrived back from this hotel after a two week break, After revewing the hotel and looking at images on the web, we were not dissapointed with the standard of this hotel it is every thing you expect from a luxuary hotel.
The staff cannot do enough for you and always ready to bring you a drink whether your on the beach in the lobby or in your room. the food was of a very good standard with plenty of choice, the best alacart is the Japanese resturant.
The entertainment was ok but got a little boring at times, but the team worked really hard.
Also you can read reviews on the Iberostar Tucan as its all the same hotel and facilities.
A couple of down sides which is nothing to do with the hotel,
(1)The humidity of the area was unbearable and made us feel uncomfortable most of the time.
(2) You need to get to the pool early if you wish to get a sunbed in a decent location as the Americans seem to put towels on the best sunbeds extremely early then not turn up till just before lunch.
(3) My wifes legs got covered in painful bites, even after applying plenty of strong repelent.
But overall this hotel is fantastic and we would go back, but during a less humid time.

This was the best hotel I have stayed in. There is not one thing that I can complain about. There was a huge selection of food every night, you had 4 A La Carte restaurants to choose from twice a week. The hotel was kept extremely clean at all times and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The entertainment was very good too going on for most of the day and up till 11.30 in the evening. For me the location was good as it was in a very quiet area but quite close to Playa Del Carmen if you wanted to go out.

This was the first Iberostar I have stayed at and it is fantastic.
The location is great as it is only 5 mins to the shopping centre of playcar and only 3 mins in a taxi to the centre of Playa del Carmen. No matter where in Playacar you stay, you are guaranteed excellent beaches - just like the brochure.
The food is good too. I have been to the caribbean several time and all in too, but never had a good steak - well you will here, they are proper fillet! No matter whether you go a la carte or buffet, the standard is very good.
The rooms are not that big, but big enough for 2. The main thing that sells the hotel is how it is laid out as a rainforest with wild monkeys, peacocks, flamingos etc.
They all merge into the grouds with lush vegetation, you would never know the hotel was that big. If you are picky on food and beaches, you will not be dissapointed.
