Beaches

Beaches are lovely however i would suggest that sea shoes be worn in the sea as it can be rocky under foot when getting in. for an amazing day out i suggest a day at ackumel beach. Get a taxi or hire a car and there you can swim naturally with the turtles in the sea. fantastic, its a must.

We stayed in Playacar near Playa de Carmen. We were only 2 minutes walk away from the small selection of shops in Playacar. There were more shops in 5th avenue in Playa de Carmen which was a half hour walk or 10 minutes by taxi. The shops in playa de carmen were excellent and there were a great variety of them. Playa de Carmen also had lots of bars, restuarants, nightclubs and hotels. The resorts were all very clean and tidy. The beaches were fantastic and very clean.

Playa del Carmen was a $5 taxi ride away from our hotel and was a welcome break during our 2 week stay. Reccomended trips include the Formula 1 Speed Boats with scuba diving looking for turtles which you are more or less guaranteed to see. A trip on a catamaran is well worth it for topping the tan up and Captain Hooks pirate ships are a fantastic night out!

We aren't really beach people, but it was very nice and the snorkelling was ok.

Playacar is a small gated community within the larger Playa Del Carmen resort, it is kept remakableuy clean , there are a few shpos in a small mall called Mexican Street, but for 5 dollars you can go into PDC, where you will find numerous shops, bars, restaurants and clubs, 5th avenue is the street wherer it all happens, plenty of mexican bands and great for people watching

I was disappointed by the beach, I knew that a lot had been lost by the hurrricane damage a couple of years ago but the drop off down to the ocean was sometimes alarmingly steep, and once I got into the sea and couldn't get out again! the sea was rough most days and the sand was quite rocky, certainly not the powder soft sand we imagined and had read about.
the resort of playacar is purpose built and not the real mexico at all, which was quite a releif as when we went on trips and saw authentic mayan villages it was a bit of a shock, wooden shacks basically with rubbish strewn about everywhere.
I wasn't overly impressed by the main resort of playa del carmen, very tacky and chaotic, far too in your face for me. we visited chitchen itza and tulum, both very impressive and very HOT. we also went swimming in a centote, which was fabulous.
I would visit mexico again, although maybe as a twin centre next time, one last thing - cancun airport makes heathrow look civilised!

Our hotel and all others were located in a gated off security area called Playacar this has a small shopping area, we walked every morning from our hotel into Playa del Carmen this took 35-40min, this has a mass of shops and bars and a variaty of street entertainments. We always felt safe didn't hear off any problems. The whole area of Playacar is a man made paradise. The beaches have white powder type sand, crystal blue water as per bounty adverts! The sea was warm and mostly calm. The beach was kept clean and was void of sea weed! We took a trip to Cozumel, ferry charge was 22u$ return, ferry crossing was a bit rough but bearable.

Playacar is a purpose built resort with the hotels and villas etc being built around an 18 hole golf course. It was absolutely spotless. The beach was as well, pure white sand looking out over a turquoise sea. Lots of sunbeds. The beach shelves a bit into the sea so sometimes the waves were a bit rough for the younger kids. The only problem I saw with the beach was at the North end of Playa del Carmen where the fishing boats were moored. Lots of fish heads floating in the sea and some had washed up onto the beach, but that was only on a 100 metre stretch of the miles long beach.

Playacar is an exclusive gated resort on the edge of Playa Del Carmen which was within walking distance or 5 dollars in a taxi. The beaches are white sand and the sea a beautiful bright blue.
It was about an hour from Cancun airport.
