I had the good fortune to photograph a wedding at the Azul Beach Hotel, staying four nights.
BOARD: All -inclusive with a selection of 3 or 4 restaurants (Mexican, Asian, Outdoor and a general inside one). Food at all was fine...food at the Mexican was outstandingly good. Breakfast offers a wide variety of options from cooked through all the healthy options. Lunch was great - you could eat fried fish and steaks BBQd on the beach or go to the main restaurant).
CLEAN: Clean Clean Clean!
LOCATION: The hotel is based in what I think is a protected wilderness area. No Cancun here though Puerto Morelos is a short drive away. Beach right in front of the hotel (no roads) with safe swimming nets. Two pools (cold water) and Jacuzzi (cold water).
STAFF: Very helpful. Although all-inclusive, have some dollar notes handy to tip the beach butlers and maids. It's not expected but you get your drinks a lot quicker!
ENTS: Good, if small entertainment programme - gym, spanish lessons, aerobics, tequila tasting, casino night, tequila bar etc.
All in all, a great place to chill and relax, Upmarket. Most rooms were great, some of the older rooms were not so good lacking the decor of the more modern ones. Lights out here at about 1am (that's when the Tequila Bar closes if I recall correctly).
Most of the double beds on the beach get taken really early in the morning.
