Just returned from a long weekend trip staying at the Hotel Luxer in Amsterdam. Om previous visits we have stayed in 4 & 5 star accommodation and expected to be a little disappointed by the Luxer but I must say it was a pleasant surprise.
The location is just perfect for everything and although only a stones throw from the red light district the room was very quiet as the hotel is located on a pedestrianised area. We were situated in a room right at the top of the hotel in the roof and because of the shape of the roofs we had sloping eves... very quirky, but also cosy.
The bed was extremely comfortable and the bedding was freshly laundered with clean pillows there were also plenty of towels. Breakfast was always plentiful, a selection of breads, cereals, fruit, boiled eggs, cheese and ham, tomatoes and hot and cold drinks.
On our arrival at 10am we asked if we could leave our bags at reception until our room was ready at 2pm. The receptionist told us that it would be ready at about 11am and if we wanted to have some breakfast while we waited we were more than welcome to help ourselves.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Its not the most luxurious but is comfortable, clean, the staff are friendly and the location could not be better. 7 Min's maximum walk to central station, about the same to Dam Square, 2 Min's from red light area and situated in a street full of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, sex shops etc. Totally spoilt for choice.
Go and enjoy, we did and can't wait to go back again. I think we will make this a regular trip once a year.
