We booked this months ago as my OH was running the marathon that weekend. We got the last available room, but I note that they are fully booked for most of the year. We got the premium plus room, which is exactly as portrayed on their website- beautiful. The hotel is on the main square in the old town. Our room unfortunately did not look out on to it. It had a beautiful stained glass window which meant you weren't looking onto the side of the next building.
The room itself is a good size. It has a sofa, and a desk and chair. For the ladies, you needn't worry about being near a mirror to sort hair or put on makeup- there are mirrors everywhere except the ceiling! There is tea and coffee. Plenty of drawers but my one slight gripe would be the wardrobe- hanging space is not long enough for dresses. The bathroom is something else- mirrored on both sides and with a hydromassage shower. Be prepared to be washing your hair the first time you use it as you work out the controls!! :) Free wifi as well.
The hotel welcomes you with a bottle of prosecco and a bowl of fruit on the first night. And on the last night they give you a bottle of red wine. We had read about the breakfast and were going to try it but we were given free vouchers for each morning due to some possible noise from work on the top floor renovations. No-one ever heard or saw anything! Continuing the drinks theme, there were bottles of vodka and prosecco to help yourself to at breakfast. I actually didn't have any, but that was more due to the fact that I would have enough during the day anyway! The breakfast place was also open throughout the day and night and I did read positive reviews but we only had a long weekend and didn't have time to try. We did eat at their adjoining second restaurant, Virtuoso- and we actually went twice. They also have a popular sports bar where I did try some of the local vodka shots- very nice, although one tasted remarkably like a cough mixture!
Food and drink is reasonably priced even on the main square but try the side streets where the prices are ridiculously low. Look for Pino restaurant- fantastic food at stupidly low prices. http://en.restauracjapino.pl/home
Its a friendly hotel, with an emphasis on good service. We would definitely return as we didn't really have time to see most of what we wanted to see.
We did go to Auschwitz/Birkenau.It was a miserable day of non stop heavy rain and we were soaked through and cold despite being issued with rain ponchos. It was quite fitting somehow though. For those who have been, the shoes really got to me- so, so many.
Worth a visit also is Schindlers Factory- which is a museum now with lots of photos and reels of film showing Krakow before and during the war. It walks you through it all in the timescale. Be prepared to have a fair wait to get in, if you haven't prebooked.
