I stayed at this Hotel and to be honest I have stayed in better 3 star Hotels.
The Hotel Staff would go missing for hours on end with no one taking their place especially at the pool bar, which also sold ice creams for the children.
I agree with the last posting that the pool was too small and you had to lay on the grass due to a lack of beds.
the hotel may look like a 4 star with good standards of workmanship and large apartments but it was all show and no substance.
they also offer a courtesy bus to Albufeira but in fact it is a 7 seater mini bus which you have to put your name down for.

The Hotel is a very modern and clean hotel and the Maid service was excellent.

However in my opinion it is not a 4 star Hotel.

The pool is far too small for the size of the hotel it does have a childrens pool but no one seemed to use it, this meant you had to run the gauntlet of inflatables and balls being thrown from all directions.

Also be prepared to set your alarm for at least 6am to get a pool side sun lounger because this is what was happening, there was a lot of complaints and people ende up lying on any grass they could find.

The staff where not particularly friendly and reluctant to engage with you,the Entertainment consisted of Karaoke which no one was intrested in and a singer who sung country and Western for at least 30 mins by then we had enough and left.

The Hotel is a bit out of the way but a 5min walk brings you to square with a few restraunts and bars also it is about 800 meters to the beach which is fantastic but it is not good for people with walking difficulties as it is down a large amount of stairs.

Also at present there is a very large 5 star hotel being constructed opposite the hotel with at least 6 cranes working on the site ( see Picture in Algarve Gallery on this website ).

The Stella Maris is a fabulous hotel. We had a studio apartment which was huge as was our balcony, the apartment was very well equipped and there was plenty of everything. Excellent air conditioning and shower with plenty of hot water. The reception staff were brilliant and nothing was to much trouble, that goes for the bar staff and cleaners as well. The whole place was spotless and the cleaners came in every day. The food at the bar was very good and 'snacks' consisted of steaks, omelette's etc. which were delicious. We explored the area and walked to Acoteias which has quite a few restaurants, shops and bars if you don't want to eat at the square, also, if you turn left at the hotel and walk to the road, then turn right you will come to a couple of restaurants which are good. We walked into Villamoura several times, once by the countryside route (which only took us 1/2 hours to walk back) and by the beach which, despite what our rep said (takes 2 to 3 hours) took approx an hour at a leisurely stroll and was heavenly. Falesia beach is very long, very clean and the water was warm, although nearby the beach is accessed by steps, you can walk further afield and avoid the steps. We went into Albefeira a couple of times and the cheapest we paid one afternoon for a taxi was 7euros 33cents (

We booked our holiday a few weeks before and it was allocation on arrival but we were guaranteed 4* accomodation. We were more than happy when the bus pulled up outside our hotel/apartment. The reception area is spotless and very modern, big comfy sofa's, orgeous artwork, candles & fresh flowers!! When we got to our room we were thrilled it was more than we had expected, A huge livingroom with beutiful furniture (not the usual cheap rubbish stuff you normally get!!Proper dinning table and chairs. A seperate kitchen with fridge/freezer, oven and 4 coking rings (when do you ever get that abroad!!!) The bedroom was just as good loads of cupboard space and lovely beds. Bathroom with power showr hot water on tap all day. Addition items ironing board & iron!!!
The pool area was lovely always plenty of sunbeds and the pool bar has a great selection of food and drinks. The playpark was great aswell my 2 year old just loved it and spent most of his time there. This hotel is fantastic I would definately go back I just hope things don't change as it was just newly opened!!
