Great Hotel in a great location , right on the Beach , its worth paying the extra for a sea view room, rooms are cleaned daily , and it was great to have tea/coffee facilities in the room, you can hire a fridge which we did and proved very handy to keep drinks cold, we found all the staff very friendly, we used the pool, which had a good clean every morning also there was a good selection of choice of things for breakfast hot and cold to suit all tastes all in all a great Hotel we will return and will recommend highly to our friends and family

The hotel was directly on the beach which was fantastic. The dining room and terrace had stunning views. The food was first class. We only had breakfast in the dining room which was the usual eggs, bacon, sausage etc. We had lunch a few times at the poolside bar (eg burger and chips or cheese toastie) and they were always hot and edible. The staff were very friendly and polite. If you are looking for evening entertainment this is not the hotel for you. All they had was an organist who was not very good. The odd night a different artist was on before the organist but, again, they were not very good and certainly not for the young.

Have just got back from 2 weeks stay at the Hotel Garbe and must say was pleasantly surprised with the whole package. The hotel is only 45mins taxi ride from Faro airport and is ideally situated right on the beach with geat uninterupted views overlooking the beach and sea from the restaurant, open air dining balcony and the pool areas.
The hotel is in an ideal location to access the beautiful 8km sandy beach and watch the local fishermen haul their morning catches in, ideal for those beach walkers or early morning joggers. The Garbe is within easy walking distance with local bars nearby or 5 minute walk into the old town.
The food in the hotel was of a good standard and had multiple choice, whether using the facilities of the dinning room in the morning for breakfast {fantastic alfresco dinning over looking the beach} or on an evening. Alternatively there is the Indian restaurant within the hotel, a pleasant experience and probably the best in town. Pool side snack bar offers refeshments through out the day at a premium, the local beach side bar adjacent to the hotel is a great alternative.
The hotel is spotlessly clean however a little tired in places and in need of updating around the pool area, this is only minor, nothing that a good lick of paint couldn't cure. Rooms are of a good size with good facilities {Satellite TV, Hair Dryer,Tea/Coffe facilities, Air Con and Safe}, Sea facing view is the best room option however balconies are too small unless you go for an upgraded room. Reception, Restaurant and Bar are all well maintained with good facilities and all manned with ever friendly and helpful staff {Room maids offer fantastic service}.
Entertainment is a little dated for the under 50's and ought to have a younger feel during the summer month's, reverting back to cater for the OAP's at Xmas. The bar is in an ideal location over looking the beach and provides a great start to the evening, especially during happy hour 7pm to 8pm.
Overall a good hotel, a little tired in places, a location which is to die for and great for walks along the beach or nearby cliff top walk, wouldn't hesitate to go back for a week.

Location was great but the hotel is very much aimed at the OAP market, although you don't know that until you arrive and feel like you're stuck in the middle of a residential care home.
The rooms were clean and fairly modern. Try to get a sea view room because the view is the best part of the hotel. The beds are extremely hard and uncomfortable, and had blankets and sheets rather than a quilt.
My blanket even came complete with a needle that stuck in my leg when I sat on the bed, obviously one of the OAP's had left a sewing needle in it for safe keeping.
The food choice is ok, although the juice is either squash or powdered, not at all nice. If you're a vegetarian, don't expect to get much to eat in the hotel. The choice is very limited indeed and although there is also an Indian restuarant in the hotel, we went in there the first day they re-opened after Christmas, and got food poisoning, which took the edge off the whole holiday because we spent most of the following day in bed and running to the toilet. We even had to get toilet paper from the downstairs toilet because one day the maid forgot to leave us any when she cleaned the room.
The worst part is when we complained to reception the following day their answer was that nobody else had complained so it was ok. Other people we spoke to in the hotel that had been in the Indian the same day as us had also been very sick, but didn't bother to report it. When we left they even tried to charge us for the priviledge of making us ill and losing a day out of our holiday!
The entertainment is perfect for over 60s and included some old guy playing a keyboard most nights. We originally thought that maybe we could bring ourselves to visit the hotel again if we only used it as a place to put our heads down for the night, then go out everyday after breakfast.
The beach next the the hotel is just great, but unfortunately by the time we left we vowed never to go near the place again until were're at least 65 years old. Maybe then we would appreciate it more.

We stayed at the Garbe in May 2005, which we booked on the internet mainly because of it's position on the beach, which did not dissapoint.
My husband and myself and daughter and son-in-law had a really good time here. The review I have just read on this site has made me want to put another prospective about this hotel, their review said it was full of OAPs and would not go again until they were over 65, well what did they expect in December it is a well known fact that OAPs go to nicer climes for the winter and the Algarve is one of the better places for them.
Our experience was altogether different, we had a very nice room overlooking the sea which was small but perfectly formed, the balconies are a little on the small side too but has a table and chairs on it.
We were on the top floor and our maid was great and very friendly nothing was too much trouble for her.
The entertainment was what you made it, and if you joined in the swing of things it was great fun. The bar staff were excellent and you can get bar snacks up until 10pm.
Breakfast was ok not as much fresh fruit as I would have liked and the juice was cordialised but apart from that there was all the usual cereals and bacon eggs and sausage etc.
The clientele was very mixed it was not by any means all OAPs, we even spotted an actress from Corrie.
All in all it is a very nice hotel at a reasonable price.
