Apartments were lovely, cleaned daily. Swimming pools were great and the staff helpful. Kitchen equipment was excellent and the washing machine a great help.

Rocha Brava is a large, attractive village-style complex built on a cliff-top site a couple of miles outside of Carvoeiro. There are over 400 one and two-storey whitewashed villa apartments on-site, all set amongst mature and attractive landscaped gardens. There is no doubt about it - this is a high quality, well-maintained complex. We stayed in a 2-bedroom ground floor apartment in the Atlantic village zone and were impressed by the high standard and cleanliness of the accommodation. It really felt like a home from home with all mod-cons provided such as microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine, oven/hob and satellite TV. The only thing lacking was air-conditioning which would have been a blessing as our arrival in July coincided with the start of a mini-heatwave with temperatures topping 40 degrees Celsius for the first 4 days. Thankfully, there were electric fans provided in the main living area and both bedrooms, without which getting a decent nights sleep would have been extremely difficult.
The on-site facilities include 3 outdoor swimming pools, 4 pay as you play all-weather tennis courts, a fitness centre, restaurant, poolside bar and a small commercial centre at the entrance with a small supermarket, coffee shop (with cyber cafe) and a beauty salon. There is also a free shuttle 3 times a day to take you into the pleasant town of Carvoeiro when you want a change of scene or a few hours on the beach. Although there is a bus stop near the complex entrance, I would still advise hiring a car to get the most out of your holiday as there are some fantastic beaches (and Golf courses if that's your thing) in the Algarve and towns like Albufeira, Lagos and Vilamoura with it's superb marina are all worth a visit.
This was our first time in the Algarve and Rocha Brava is a great base for a holiday. We had a really enjoyable two weeks there, so good in fact that we have already booked to return in 2006. That is about the best recommendation I can give as we rarely return to the same resort and complex so quickly. Thoroughly recommended.
