Hotel small and frienly, Bed and breakfast, waiter service, cereal, toast etc. cooked breakfast if wanted. Hotel clean and quaint, Staff pleasant, entertainment usually consisted of someone on keyboard a couple of nights a week when we stayed. Hotel in small square with bars, restaurants and beach just off the square. Nice and central. Resort has Casino although we never visited.

The hotel itself was a small, clean friendly hotel.
The food was good but the service was slow.
The staff were friendly, hospitable and helpful.
The hotel location was good, just a few yards from the beach, cafes etc.
The lack of entertainment was a bit of a disappointment, although there were hotels etc. nearby with entertainment.

The Casablanca occupies one side of a little square just off the sea front - the beach was literally a two minute walk away. It's a long, three storey building built to look local and all the rooms have small terraces. The other three sides of the square comprise concrete high-rises, some OK, most bland and boring. The hotel is starting to show its age although it is well maintained and everywhere was very clean. The small gardens outside were lovely, lots of flowers and well tended. Rooms were basic but again clean and with maid service every day. The rooms all have air conditioning and a small TV with limited satellite channels.
The reception staff and the chambermaids were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant and bar staff were another matter. Service was always slow, whether at meals or when trying to get a drink. The dining room was trying to be a bit posh, linen table cloths and napkins, silver service in the evenings. But the food was poor. Breakfast was OK, usual mix of cereals, fruit, cold meats, cheese, yoghurts, a full English if you felt up to it. If you asked for more, you got it. Evening meals were choice of soup or salad, then either fish, meat or pasta followed by ice-cream, fruit or a pudding. The soups were always remarkably similar. The main courses tended to be overcooked, especially the vegetables. They always came on red-hot plates but the food itself was barely tepid. At the price we paid (

we visited monte gordo in december 2002. we loved the resort it was very quiet, charming and quaint, that is why we soon returned.we were dissapointed with the hotel. the room was small and basic, although it was very clean. we looked out onto a side street.the food was bad. it was waiter service, and this could take ages.there was very little choice. for breakfastthey would bring you one bread roll, a slice of meatand cheese, and then you could choose a boiled egg or scrambled egg, only one slice of toast, didn't dare ask for another.no fruit in site.
evening meal consisted of soup which tasted the same every night. the main corse was often a kind of spam fritter, or spam cooked in a different way. which became very boring. Again you could be waiting quite a while to be served.
