Nice hotel, clean and well positioned. Not suitable for people that have breathing problems as there is a very steep walk from the main road up to the reception area.
If you do not book a sea view you have a room at the back of the hotel overlooking a residential area. The time we were there the inhabitants allowed their dogs to bark and howl intermittently all day and all night. Not the hotels fault but still a disturbing aspect.
The courtesy bus was a blessing but there is a local bus and the taxis were resonable.
No tea or coffee making facilities in the room.

Went on an "allocated on arrival" last minute impulse holiday.
The hotel was not really suitable for our 2 elderly persons with walking disabilities and there are no nearby shops/bars etc.
Hence the low points for location. The views over Funchal and the bay on the other hand are outstanding, as the name suggests.
The hotel rooms were more than adequate but tea making facilities would have been a major plus for the oldies. During the day it was a long walk to the pool bar to get a "cuppa".
The meals, on an help yourself buffet were superb and the staff very friendly and attentive.
Evening entertainment was not paticularly brilliant, and, as the hotel had a captive audience as there were no local bars, well attended and crowded.
There was a lack of somewhere a bit quieter to have a drink.
