We were searching for self-catering accommodation to suit the needs of a family of two parents and two teenagers and this fitted the bill perfectly. It has a very well equipped kitchen, two comfortable bedrooms, a cosy living room and a lovely bathroom. The wifi was essential for a teenager requiring internet access for school work and the dishwasher was essential for a mum on holiday.
We arrived in horrendous weather conditions, having slithered all the way down the road from the Edinburgh city bypass, to find the wood burning stove lit and a bottle of wine on the table to welcome us; that was a great start. The cottage was cosy throughout our stay, even without the stove lit, and there was plenty of wood and kindling available to top up the stove.
The town of Kelso is a few minutes drive away and has a good selection of small shops (butchers, bakers, etc) plus larger supermarkets. Nearby there is plenty to see in the various Borders towns and Edinburgh is within easy reach.
Unfortunately the weather was awful on the weekend we stayed at Cockle Kitty so we weren't able to enjoy the riverside walks directly outside but the surroundings are stunning. Highly recommended.
