We stayed at this Best Western Hotel as part of a family reunion - about 40 of us altogether, including at least half a dozen children aged from 18 months upwards. It is situated half-way between Prestwick Airport and Glasgow, in the town of Kilwinning.
The hotel is an old country house, reached by a long drive and set in 50 acres of grounds, built in the early 1800s, and we felt as if we were staying in a private home. The staff were so welcoming, and always had a smile on their faces, even at 2.00 in the morning when we were still ordering drinks!!! There was no problem with the small children - they could run around the thickly-carpeted rooms and clamber over the settees without any problem and no-one seemed to mind. They also catered for dogs.
The house itself was very warm and welcoming, with log fires in public rooms and bar - for which we were especially grateful on a cold and windy day. The library was particularly welcoming, with squashy settees and books and games for everyone.
The food was excellent, especially the haggis-stuffed chicken with whiskey sauce. There were enough staff employed to ensure that all 40 of us were served at the same time during all courses, so that no-one was waiting.
All in all I would thoroughly recommend this hotel - for either a short break, or, if living locally and thinking of getting married, a wedding reception. You will not be disappointed.
