Hotel in need of a refurnishing, green mould round taps, went self-catering no kettle no toaster had to go out and buy all are meals.
Staff not friendly, could not get in touch with cosmos rep, telephone numbers for 24hrs helpline no answer those are just a few of the bad points.
Good points close to beach and a beautiful resort.you have been warned stay well clear of the Sol Y Mar.

hotel room was clean and spacious although we did have a problem with fridge, it was replaced but never took old one away. not a problem though. cleaners came in about twice a week. entertainment was non existent. food was rubbish, only ate ther one night, never again! staff were lovely though. pools never got too crowderd, we had kids pool virtually to our selves for two weeks, lovely.

When we arrived at our room in this hotel it was terrible there was a disgusting smell, the bathroom was dirty, the smell in the bathroom was even worse, the shower curtain was replaced as it was very dirty and we even had a light out when we arrived.
To our surprise we were put into a room with a double room, bunkbeds and sofa beds (we were under the impression that we had two double rooms & a sofa bed). We ended up sleeping two adults in the double room one adult in the bunk room and myself & our daughter on the sofa beds.
Nobody with any sense would let their child sleep in the bunk room alone, the shutters (no glass) opened straight onto the landing, big security and safety issue with children, unless we wanted to leave the shutters closed all night then there was no air in the room.
We had requested an upper floor room because of the pub below. We were given a room on the first floor and were informed that the upper floors had being reserved for the Thomson Reps that were coming to stay in the hotel (thank Thomson for putting your paying guest second).
When we saw the Thomson rep the next day she was not suprised with regards to the room layout as she had being receiving guests all summer expecting different rooms to what they had being given.
We hired a kettle from reception only to find that if you plugged the kettle in with any other appliances the electric tripped out. After two days in the hotel we were informed by reception staff that our rep has being moved to another hotel and we were given a helpline number incase we had any other problems (thanks again Thomson for making the guests at the Sol Y Mar feel less important than your other guests).
The good side to the holiday was that the food downstairs in the pub was good and the reception staff were very helpful.

I was quite worried about going to this hotel as I had read bad reports after booking it, I was very relieved when I arrived and saw it. It is a lovely hotel couldnt really fault it.
The location is great near shops and bars.
The staff here were very helpful and friendly would put themselves out to make your stay as good as posible.
The pool is lovely and not a bad size, my two little ones age four and six loved it and didnt want to go anywhere else. The only bad point is you have to get out very early to get a sunbed around eight I would say.
The food in this hotel is good value for money and plenty of choice, the drinks are great too. The entertainment is okay not a great deal of variety, kareoke, bingo and play your cards right every night, fun though!

I travelled to Majorca this year and it was excellent. The Hotel was nice, it was just over the road from the beach.
The hotel staff were all nice and helpful. I can honestly say I didn't have any problems staying at the Sol y mar apartment.
There is a supermarket just down the road from the apartments but it was quite expensive.

If staying at the Sol Y Mar Apartments in a 1 bed apt you will probably end up in the annex (only 2 1 bed apt are in main building, the rest are all 2 bed apts).
When we stayed in 2002 there was major building work going on opposite the annex block but I'm pleased to say the work has now been completed and the new apartment buildings look lovely.
Those staying in the main building will find noise levels quite high as the apartments are situated above the Royal Crown pub/bar and a supermarket (expensive) and on the main road.
Location wise it couldn't be much better, only a minute walk to the beach from the apartments.
The pool area is nice BUT the kiddies pool is situated up a dozen or so steps which isn't great if you need to take a buggy to the pool with you.
If planning on travelling with a twin buggy - don't! Take 2 singles as none of the ramps are wide enough to accomodate a twin buggy nor are the lifts which caused us to have to buy 2 singles whilst out there.
I'd also recommend taking your own travel cots - the ones provided were lethal - literally death traps and Thomson couldn't have cared less!
