Food - Good
Entertainment - Rubbish
Kids Club - Good
It was good except the entertainment. I recommend Shenenigans over the road! The beach was lovely and good to swim in, as long as there's a green flag! It's an hour drive from the airport and once your there, you never want to leave.

Just got back form this Hotel 04/10/02.
Agree with comments from Kareng 07-09-2002.

GOOD POINTS
Nice Beach.

Good location.

Lovely promenade, especially at night.

Good play area for kids.

Food OK but on a weekly rota.

BAD POINTS
We arrived on a Thursday and by Friday night my 1 year old started with sickness and diarrhea, then subsequently my 3 year old and then my wife. Rep was unhelpful in saying that less than 1% of hotel had reported a problem and it could be due to some bug travelling in the air conditioning. Later having overheard conversations and speeking to other people, seeing children being sick in the toilets we realised the problem was on a larger scale. In one pub we said we had been ill and they said you must be staying at the Son Baulo! Most people we spoke to had had the Bug? It was also said that the Health authority had paid the Hotel a visit. Later toilets and bathroom doors had rotas for houly and daily disinfection!

Lifts too small and temperamental.

Not the best superfamily hotel and entertainment we have experienced.

Chefs giving kids 7 lollies at a time before they had even eaten anything at dinner or breakfast. Try getting them to eat after that.

Sea was smelly (pooey sulphur smell.) and could get rough with a dangerous undercurrent. One of our friends we met there had to be rescued along with 8 others in one day!

By turning this hotel into a "Superfamily" hotel, Thomson has ruined what was once a charming, friendly and well-run hotel, set in an ideal location. The hotel used to have an international flair, with German, Spanish and English tourists, and international cuisine. The hotel now has the charm and atmosphere of a British holiday camp, dominated by badly behaved children and overweight parents.
The entertainment in the hotel can only be described as amateur. Every morning at 10am the reps would repeat the same welcoming speech, starting with the philosophical opening statement "life is like a box of chocolates" over the loudspeaker for 30 minutes.
Fortunately there are some very nice bars near the hotel, and other hotels in the vicinity offer a much better standard of entertainment.
If you're looking for peace and quiet then you should think seriously about booking this hotel. If however you are looking for a source of amusement, to see how the British public behave abroad, then this is the place to be.
Thanks Thomson!

Have to say having this hotel as our first experience of a Thompson Superfamily I will never again book one of these holidays. The hotel itself was very dated in my opinion. The restaurant was small and usually very crowded no matter what time you ate. The pool area again was small for the size of the hotel. There was hardly enough room to walk around the pool once everybody was set up on the sunbeds.
You had to be around at 12 lunch time to enroll your children in the kids club for that evening and if you were not there on the dot then it was usually full when you got there .
My daughter is 9. I couldnt quite fathom exactly what age group the entertainment was pitched at...but during the day it seemed to be for the adults. And if you hadnt quite managed to fight your way to the front of the queue for the kids club then the evening entertainment was again pitched for the adults leaving one very bored 9 year old.

Just got back from Son Baulo 6th August 2002 and will be booking to go back next year within next few days. It was superb, hotel is spotless, staff are friendly, food is magic--too many choices--no good trying to diet, beach is just outside hotel and clean sand, entertainment is great at night either by acts booked in or by Thomsons reps in their own show. Young kids are also well looked after.

Complaint, well there`s gotta be one, not about hotel or resort:

Dont try and get a taxi
A) If you have sun tan oil on
B) If it's raining
They dont want to know.

As a plus to me and mine--very few germans in hotel.

Overall very good.Clean hotel, food of a very high standard and excellent variety, better this year with the fresh fried eggs in the mornings and fresh cooked choice at nights. Staff very friendly, helpful, and courteous, we were made to feel really welcome and we will go back very soon. Nice location.
Young children very well provided. Entertainment for children very good.Pool area very secure with only one way in/out and shuts off in the evening. Little pool with shallow end and a very small pool for toddlers.
Lovely new promenade, 20 minutes to resort centre.
Only complaint, we had 1 teenager, we didn't see that in the brochure it wasn't suitable for teenagers until we had already booked, tour operator never mentioned this.
Excellent holiday overall.

We were both disappointed and pleased with the Hotel Son Baulo. The location was lovely as was the food and cleanliness of the hotel but with 2 small children we found that certain areas were very poor considering this is classed as a 'superfamily hotel'

1. No balcony lights - what are us adults meant to do when our little ones retire - we sat and read by candlelight - not too good.

2. The 'little' pool, there is no shallow end, it is 0.70m deep so no good for non swimmers and is so small any more than 10 it is packed.

3. The patio area has a steep step to it which the little ones do not see and is completely taken up with sunbeds, no where for them to play, also there are steps to the beach with no gate and the pool area is not shut off in the evening, therefore it is very easy for them to 'escape' and no where for you to enjoy a drink and let them run around with out you constantly behind them.

4. The are a lot of pushchairs around - no problem except there are two tiny, tempremental lifts, you can just fit a buggy and adult in, quite a juggling act when you arrive with 3 cases, 2 buggys and 2 small children.

5. There are also a lot of stairs.
Don't get me wrong we enjoyed the holiday but considering Superfamily status we felt an overhaul of certain things needed, a good hotel for children between 4 to 12 only in our opinion.

Have just returned on 15th July 2002 after a fortnight.

A brilliant hotel, especially for kids. (We have two children, aged 8 and 3). Located on a lovely beach and only 25 minutes leisurely walk from the centre.

Food is too good and you eat too much. The kids clubs and reps are brill and would definitely recommend them for parents wanting a couple of hours peace a day!!

A quiet location, although not in the hotel with plenty going on, either around pool in the day or on stage at night.

The whole hotel is entirely British but I would say that the resort if predominantly German.
Would recommend to other similar families.

We have just come back from staying at the Son Baulo.(23/07/02 - 07/07/02).

Had a fabulous time apart from the fact that our 6 year old son broke his arm on the 5th day we were there and couldn't go in the water afterwards. The medical help we received was brilliant.

The pool area tends to get a bit crowded especially as a lot of people went out to put their towels on the sunbeds at around 8am or before! Luckily, the hotel is on the beach so if there is no room by the pool, you can always go on the beach.

This resort is very popular with Germans and if you shut your eyes on the beach you might think you were on holiday in Germany!

Visit 'Shenanigans', a British bar owned by Graham. The bar is only 2 mins walk from the hotel, if that, and you are made to feel very welcome. Mention my son Jack who became quite famous there with his broken arm as Graham had him on stage every night timing him to unwrap a lollipop with his broken arm!

I visited the hotel Son Baulo a few years ago. The hotel was very clean and the cleaners were jolly and always said hello.

The food was OK, but not great. I am a fussy eater and i found it hard to find something i liked each night. Luckily chips were always available so thats what i ate most. During the day you could buy hot-dogs which the children enjoyed.

The location was alright but after you visited the 7 shops there wasn't much else to see. There was only one street with shops on and it was quite quiet.

The staff seemed friendly and pleasent. The ones that worked with the kids were great and really seemed to enjoy their jobs. The waiters were also great and could speak english very well.

The entertainment was just average, there wasn't anything i hadn't seen before whilst on holiday abroad. There was one act that was horrible, it was meant to be a circus style act but i found it quite gruesome. The "star" of the show lay on smashed glass until his back bled. Another actress threw darts at his back until they stuck in. It wasn't a very nice shoe espically as there were children around.

I wouldn't visit this hotel again because another problem was the kids. It was very busy and noisy around the pool with lots of kids just running wild without any adult suppervision.
